At the 79th Cannes Film Festival, filmmaker Manisha K Makwana’s Gudgudi was showcased at the Short Film Corner. In a chat with HT City, the director opens up about the project and how working with Raj & DK for The Family Man and Farzi served as a learning experience: Ahsaas Channa in Gudgudi Gudgudi is rooted in deeply personal emotions — what was the exact moment or experience that first sparked this story for you? I think I had been carrying this experience inside me for a long time — from my days working at an amusement park. I contemplated making Gudgudi for quite a while because it isn’t an easy subject to approach, but eventually I had to trust my gut and the core emotional truth the film revolves around. The story comes from those moments of feeling unseen in a room full of people — something all of us experience in our everyday lives. At its heart, the film is also about how a shift in perspective can change the way we see …

Inside Manisha Ramadass’ relentless reign at World No. 1

Inside Manisha Ramadass’ relentless reign at World No. 1

There’s a moment, almost thrown away in a rapid-fire round, where Manisha Ramadass pauses for a word to describe what it means to sit atop the world rankings for over 180 weeks. “The domination.” It’s not said with swagger. It’s an acknowledgement of something she has come to live with, day after day, session after session, tournament after tournament. In an exclusive conversation with The Bridge, Manisha peeled back the layers of dominance to reveal the doubt, discipline, and drive behind it. The stillness behind the spotlight The last year should have changed everything. A 2024 Summer Paralympics bronze medal. A historic first, India’s first woman to win a Paralympic badminton medal. Titles across continents. Recognition, headlines, expectations. And yet, she shrugs. “After Paris 2024… I don’t know if anything has changed,” she says. “Apart from the medal, people calling me a Paralympic medallist… everything else is the same. Same routine, same training every day.” That’s the contradiction at the heart of her rise. The world sees a breakthrough; she sees continuity. Even that medal, …

‘Dinho’: The lonely, remarkable journey of Manisha Kalyan – from a barefoot girl in Muggowal to scoring ‘goal of the tournament’ at 2026 Women’s Asian Cup | Football News

Thirty yards out, four defenders in white between her and the goal, Manisha Kalyan stood still for a moment, with her shorts hitched up, then hit it with her left foot. The ball climbed, caught the underside of the crossbar, bounced down and over the line. The stadium waited. VAR confirmed. The commentator called it the goal of the tournament. India lost the match 3-1. They finished the AFC Women’s Asian Cup at the bottom of their group — three games, no points, a goal difference of minus fourteen. But for one moment in Sydney on Monday night, a girl from a village in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district reminded everyone watching what Indian football could look like, if only there were more of her. There isn’t. That’s the other story. AFC Women’s Asian Cup: Manisha Kalyan scores a pearler, but India go down 1-3 to Chinese Taipei | Football News

Inside the first 12 minutes of their final AFC Women’s Asian Cup group-stage match against Chinese Taipei, India’s Soumya Guguloth hit the left post with a header from a corner and then missed the far post by inches, both chances provided by Manisha Kalyan. They needed to win by a two-goal margin to go through to the quarterfinals of this tournament, and keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Loose passes and heavy touches crept up but they were running the Chinese Taipei defence ragged in the opening exchanges. All that pressure was let off in the 12th minute when Chen Jin-wen latched on to the ball after Sanju Yadav pretty much passed it into empty space inside her own penalty box, squared it to Su Yu-hsuan who promptly put it past India goalkeeper Panthoi Chanu to give Chinese Taipei the lead. India suddenly needed to score three goals to …
