4 ‘Namo’ cities to be developed in Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan, says Minister Manohar Lal | India News

2 min readNew DelhiJun 16, 2026 03:47 PM IST Four greenfield cities would be developed in the National Capital Region, with one each in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, at a total cost of Rs 5,000 crore over the next five years, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal said on Tuesday. The decision was made at a meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board (NRCPB) chaired by Lal and attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma and Rajasthan Urban Development Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra. Addressing a press conference after the board meeting, Lal said the cities would be chosen through a challenge, with each state submitting three proposals. In the case of Delhi, a sub-city would be proposed, he said. These new cities or sub-city would be along the transport nodes, including the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). File | Photo Credit: ANI It is imperative that we make our own rules adhering to our own necessities instead of directly borrowing regulations from others, said Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal on Monday (January 19, 2026). Speaking at the inauguration of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Regulatory Affairs in the Power Sector at IIT Delhi, he explained, “We [India’s power sector] are competing with the world. They will frame their own regulations; we will also frame our regulations. Dr Amit Arya, a close confidant of Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has been appointed vice-chancellor of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts in Haryana’s Rohtak. Arya, a former journalist, served as Khattar’s media adviser when he was the Haryana chief minister. File | Photo Credit: PTI Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday (December 10, 2024) said there has been a substantial increase in investments in the urban sector since 2014 and emphasised the Centre’s dedication to realising the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. Addressing a press conference on achievements of his Ministry, the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister said investments have increased 16-fold, rising from approximately ₹1,78,053 crore between 2004 and 2014 to ₹28,52,527 crore since 2014. “Urban development schemes have been expanded and implemented with greater speed and efficiency in the past six months, asserting that the rapid pace of urbanisation has made urban development a key pillar of India’s growth strategy,” he said. The Minister said that under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) between 2004 and 2014, projects worth ₹66,837 crore were sanctioned, but the Modi government has sanctioned projects worth ₹2.73 lakh crore under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) since 2014.
