A bench of president B Uma Venkata Subba Lakshmi and members C Lakshmi Prasanna and V Janardhan Reddy observed that the denial or downgrade of a confirmed seat in the business class amounts to a deficiency in service. “In the absence of material evidence, we are constrained to believe the statement of the complainant that he was deprived of the comfort and was separated from his wife during the journey from Jeddah to Rome,” the bench held in its order dated May 21. The patient is from Feroke in Kozhikode. The preliminary test for Nipah virus infection at the MCH returned positive, officials said on Thursday (June 11, 2026). According to sources, the patient is in a critical condition and is on ventilator support. He had been earlier admitted to a private hospital in the city, from where he was shifted to the MCH late Wednesday night. An isolation ward has been set up for his treatment. Accidental consumption of a wild plant that resembles edible fiddlehead fern varieties may have caused the death of an elderly man and the illness of seven others of the same family in Modha Draj village of Kotranka tehsil in Rajouri district on May 16, experts from Rajouri Government Medical College (GMC) said on Monday. The viscera and other forensic samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, Jammu, as well as Chandigarh to determine the precise cause of death and confirm the presence of any toxic compounds or poisonous plant derivatives. According to the preliminary information gathered during the initial field assessment, the incident involved a localised cluster of family members who reportedly consumed a common meal during lunch on May 15. Several individuals developed acute gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, which were subsequently followed by neurological manifestations suggestive of possible exposure to a harmful wild plant substance, said GMC principal Dr AS Bhatia.
