Liquor prices in Kerala hiked marginally

Distilleries supplying Kerala had flagged an increase in the price of raw materials, chiefly molasses. They requested that the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco), a State-owned liquor retail monopoly, increase the procurement price. The liquor companies argued that distilleries exporting liquor to Kerala from other regions did not face a turnover tax and demanded a level playing field. The government refused to increase the procurement price of liquor but agreed to renounce the 5% turnover tax on liquor produced in Kerala. However, the government hiked the sales tax on liquor by 4%. It also increased BEVCO’s warehouse margin by 1% to offset the revenue loss caused by the rollback of the turnover tax. Air quality in Delhi improves slightly. New Delhi: A thin layer of smog engulfed the national capital and the AQI was recorded at 296 at 7 am on Saturday, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). In Anand Vihar, the AQI was recorded at a very poor category of 380 at 7 am; in ITO, it was 253 (poor) at 6 am; in RK Puram, it was 346 (very poor) at 6 am; in IGI Airport T3 it was 342 (very poor) at 6 am; and in Dwarka Sector 8 the AQI was 308 (very poor) at 7 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Delhi’s Air Quality Improves Marginally After 4 Days, But Remains ‘Poor’

The air quality index is likely to touch 400 by October 31. Delhi: Delhi’s air quality improved slightly on Saturday morning nearly four days after the national capital reeled under toxic air pollution, however, it still remains in the ‘poor’ category. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi dropped to 230 this morning – from Friday’s reading of 270.  According to the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS), the air quality in Delhi has improved due to a sudden change in wind direction and speed. Despite the improvement, weather experts have cautioned that the relief may be short-lived, as pollution levels are expected to rise again in the next three days, reported news agency PTI. The air quality index is likely to touch 400 by October 31, the weather system said.  Fearing further air quality deterioration after Diwali, the Delhi government has imposed stage two of the GRAP or the Graded Response Action Plan. Voter turnout marginally better among women than men in Lok Sabha poll

In Tamil Nadu, women voters surpassed men voters by a thin margin of 0.27 percentage points in exercising their franchise in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the polling for which was held on Friday, according to the revised turnout data released by the Election Commission of India on Sunday. The total turnout now stood at 69.72%, relatively lesser than the figures recorded in the previous general elections in the State. Of a total of 6,23,33,925 electors in Tamil Nadu, 4,34,58,875 exercised their franchise. In terms of percentage, women voters (69.85%) surpassed men voters (69.58%) by a narrow margin. Of 3,17,19,665 women electors, 2,21,58,256 cast their votes and of 3,06,05,793 men electors, 2,12,97,903 exercised their franchise. In the ‘others’ category, out of 8,467 electors, only 2,716 cast their vote, registering a turnout of 32.07%. More than 75% of women electors turned up to vote at nine seats – Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Karur, Perambalur, Chidambaram (SC), Namakkal, Salem, Villupuram (SC) and Arani.
