Omar Marmoush Fires Manchester City Into FA Cup Semis After Erling Haaland Limps Off

Manchester City came from behind to reach the FA Cup semi-finals for a record seventh consecutive season with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday, but victory came at a cost as Erling Haaland hobbled off injured. Haaland had seen a first-half penalty saved before Evanilson put the Cherries in front. The Norwegian made amends by equalising four minutes into the second period before being forced off with an ankle injury. His replacement, Omar Marmoush, took just two minutes to score the winner from a second assist by the impressive Nico O’Reilly as City booked a semi-final clash against Nottingham Forest. “Seven times in a row reaching semi-finals in the FA Cup…this is outstanding. This generation of players, they have done this,” said City boss Pep Guardiola. City have been a shadow of the side that won four consecutive Premier League titles this season and Guardiola said prior to the game that even FA Cup glory would not save a miserable season. The English champions’ collapse in the Premier League began at Bournemouth …

Arsenal Close Gap On Leaders Liverpool, Omar Marmoush Treble Lifts Manchester City

Arsenal ignored their injury woes to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool as Mikel Merino inspired a 2-0 win against Leicester, while Omar Marmoush’s hat-trick fired Manchester City’s 4-0 rout of top four rivals Newcastle on Saturday. Mikel Arteta‘s side were in danger of wasting a chance to put pressure on Liverpool in the title race as they laboured to make the breakthrough at the King Power Stadium. With his attacking options limited by a host of injuries, Arteta sent on Spain midfielder Merino to act as a makeshift striker in the closing stages. It proved an inspired move as Merino netted twice in the last nine minutes to extend Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the league to 15 games. In the 81st minute, Ethan Nwaneri swung a pin-point cross into the Leicester area and Merino found space to thump his header past Mads Hermansen from six yards. Seven minutes later, Leandro Trossard whipped a cross into the six-yard box and Merino’s well-timed run eluded the Leicester defence as he slotted home …

Omar Marmoush, the ‘Pharaoh’, has given Manchester City a lease of life | Football News

Just 45 seconds had passed on the digital clock at the Etihad when Omar Marmoush made his first touch in the Manchester City shirt. It was heavy, the ball ricocheted from the outside of his right foot. But how he reached the ball and how he made amends captured the virtues that convinced City to cough up 63 millions pounds to acquire his signature. The move began when Matheus Nunes clipped a neat pass to Phil Foden, stationed a few yards away from half-line. Marmoush was then lurking near the centre circle. But when Foden abruptly sliced a ball into a pocket of space in the middle, the 25-year-old pounced from nowhere and stretched his right-leg to seize the ball, even if the touch was scruffy. But he didn’t give up his wild chase. He out-sprinted his marker, gathered the ball, and swished the ball just a few inches over the bar. Had he scored, the goal would have been ruled marginally off-side, as he had timed his run a fraction over-zealously. But the sequence …

Manchester City sign Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in bid to revive fortunes | Football News

Defending English Premier League (EPL) champions Manchester City on Thursday announced the signing of Egypt forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for 70 million euros ($73 million). The player is City’s third signing in the January transfer window after they snapped up defenders Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for a combined $77 million. Marmoush was the second-highest goal-scorer in the German Bundesliga this season with 15 strikes from 17 matches, second only to Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane. Frankfurt had signed Marmoush on a free transfer in 2023 from Wolfsburg, where he only scored five goals the season before. He can play in wide roles and has generally done so for Egypt’s national team, but less successfully than in a central role. He has six goals and three assists in 35 games for his country. However, it’s not clear where he would fit in the City starting XI with manager Pep Guardiola preferring to use just a single forward which Erling Haaland has already nailed on. We’re delighted to announce the signing …

In-Form Omar Marmoush And Eintracht Frankfurt Hope To Tackle History At Wounded Bayer Leverkusen

Eintracht Frankfurt and in-form forward Omar Marmoush visit wounded Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday battling the weight of history. Frankfurt have lost their past 10 games at the BayArena, last avoiding defeat in a 1-1 draw in 2014, when current Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso was still playing for Bayern Munich. Despite that lean run, Eintracht meet the reigning German league and cup holders full of confidence. Frankfurt scored in added time to draw 3-3 at home against leaders Bayern last time out and remain a point behind in third. Marmoush has eight goals and four assists in just six league games this season. On Thursday, the Bundesliga named him player of the month for September. Coach Dino Toppmoeller said Thursday his Frankfurt side “have the weapons to hurt the opponent”. “We’re really up for it. It’s always nice to play against an absolute top team to be able to prove yourself.” Marmoush started both matches as Egypt beat Mauritania twice in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying and was “still on a plane” …

Omar Marmoush Double Denies Bayern Munich Outright Bundesliga Top Spot

Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush scored twice, including an injury-time equaliser to secure a 3-3 draw for Eintracht Frankfurt and deny Bayern Munich a two-point cushion at the top of the Bundesliga on Sunday. Marmoush’s strike sparked wild scenes in Frankfurt, who ensure Bayern go into the international break ahead of RB Leipzig only on goal difference after the Red Bull outfit won 1-0 at Heidenheim earlier. Bayern had been closing out a 3-2 win but Marmoush raced clear in the fourth of six additional minutes and the 25-year-old punished slack Bayern defending to settle a thriller. Frankfurt are now on 13 points, only a point behind the joint leaders, and stretch their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions under coach Dino Toppmoeller. Bayern central defender Min-Jae Kim scored the opener after Thomas Mueller showed great awareness to roll the ball back to the Korean from a corner, allowing the defender to fire into the roof of the net. It was only Kim’s second goal as a Bayern player, but Bayern were …
