BAFTAs 2026 Full Winners List: One Battle After Another Takes 6 Trophies, Marty Supreme Gets Snubbed Despite 11 Nods

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts recognized and honored some of the biggest cinematic releases of 2025 in a ceremony held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the 79th British Academy Film Awards was a star-studded affair with the biggest stars in attendance.  Among the winners of the night, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Leonardo DiCaprio-led One Battle After Another was the biggest earner with an impressive 6 grabs. Michael B. Jordan’s Sinners followed with 3 of its own. Robert Aramayo, who led I Swear, was the most welcome surprise, winning the coveted Best Leading Actor award among some of the best contenders.  However, the biggest shock remained Marty Supreme, which was given no trophies even after being in the running for a whopping 11. The Josh Safdie sports dramedy tied 1969 film Women in Love and 2004’s Finding Neverland in doing so. The latter two went on to nab one Oscar each, meaning all hope is not lost for the Timothée Chalamet starrer, which did …

Josh Safdie calls Marty Supreme ‘personal’ as family of real-life Marty allege that they never blessed the film | Hollywood News

3 min readNew DelhiFeb 6, 2026 08:26 PM IST The awards season is almost about to come to a close with the Oscars and the BAFTAs right around the corner. During this season, director Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme is currently being considered as one of the favourites for the big awards. However, the dream of bagging the big awards seems to be going up in smoke, as controversies start to surround director Josh Safdie. One of them is the question around the origins of the story of Marty Supreme. Yes, the film isn’t a page-by-page copy of real-life table tennis player Marty Reisman’s life, but there are too many similarities to simply let it go without question. According to a report by THR, the family of Reisman talked to the Daily Mail and said that they never blessed the movie or its story. They said that the studio behind the film, A24, “profited while externalising harm and invoked Marty’s name without attribution or compensation.” ALSO READ: The Fall Off album review: J Cole doesn’t want …

Light, likeable, forgettable: Deepanjana Pal on Vir Das’s Happy Patel

In Marty Supreme, director and co-writer Josh Safdie establishes his hero as a liar and adulterer within minutes. Marty, played by Timothée Chalamet, is also self-centred, and obsessed with table tennis. Vir Das with Mithila Palkar in Happy Patel. Das is sweet and goofy, but doesn’t offer enough edginess or intensity to leave a mark. Over the course of the film, he will prey on every person he can prey on and leave a trail of destruction behind him as he tries to fund his table tennis career. On paper, Marty Mauser is everything a hero shouldn’t be. Yet he always has the audience on his side. Beneath the veneer of the con artist, Marty Supreme has layers. He is a working-class man with ambitions beyond his station. He is a Jew navigating an anti-Semitic America. He’s a proud athlete who would rather be treated with contempt than pity. Ultimately, Marty’s victory may be gift-wrapped in defeat, but he does have the last laugh; the bad behaviour is him taking a swipe at a world …

Marty Supreme movie review: Timothee Chalamet smashes it in Josh Safdie’s film | Movie-review News

Marty Supreme movie review: Timothee Chalamet smashes it in Josh Safdie’s film | Movie-review News

Marty Supreme movie review: To say that this film is about table tennis, wouldn’t do it justice. To say it’s about ping pong, wouldn’t do it full justice. For, this Josh Safdie film does jump and loop, blaze and smash like the sport’s furious pings and pongs. But none of it would matter without Timothée Chalamet. If Chalamet has been flexing some metaphorical muscle since Marty Supreme came around, the talented actor, it is now evident, has good cause. Chalamet sheds the evocative vulnerability suggested by his slender frame and pretty looks to give us a youth whose ambition and talent will burn whatever and whoever stands in his way, who is supremely confident that he is meant for bigger things, and who is not afraid to wear his desperate hunger on his sleeve. Through him, Safdie, with his frequent collaborator and co-screenwriter Ronald Bronstein (though minus his brother, Benny Safdie), tells a tale of 1952 New York, where many walls stand between its upper echelons and a Jewish boy from the Lower East Side …

Here’s Why Timothée Chalamet’s Transformation in Marty Supreme Signals One of His Boldest Roles Yet

Here’s Why Timothée Chalamet’s Transformation in Marty Supreme Signals One of His Boldest Roles Yet

Josh Safdie’s longtime vision for Marty involved pockmarked skin, acne, and scars on Chalamet’s preternaturally unblemished complexion “to show a history of Marty living a rough life on the streets of the Lower East Side, and make it authentic,” explains the movie’s makeup designer Kyra Panchenkon. “We were really trying to give him a lived-in, raw look and create an unrecognisable Timothée,” she mentioned. Special effects designer Mike Fontaine created five prosthetics, which involved two acne-scarred cheek pieces and three other ones. The face was also covered with nicks and faded scars, applied to the lower part of the face, which Chalamet preferred. “They disappeared into his skin,” said Panchenko, who worked in tandem with Fontaine to trim his time in the makeup chair down from an hour and a half to 45 minutes. “Everyone thought, ‘Oh, Timmy’s skin looks pretty rough,” he added. From prosthetic detailing and altered facial features to period-accurate styling, every element of Chalamet’s look was designed to reflect Marty’s mindset. The transformation wasn’t just cosmetic, Chalamet also embraced physical discomfort, …
