Three of the chargesheeted accused, Abhay Nath Dubey and Rohit Yadav from Uttar Pradesh; and Abhiranjan Kumar from Bihar, were arrested in February on their arrival in Delhi from Cambodia. The fifth person named Prahlad Kumar Singh, is out on bail. The syndicate was involved in luring Indian youth to Cambodia on the pretext of legitimate jobs and lucrative salaries, as part of an organised human trafficking racket. “The victims’ passports were seized and they were forced to work for scam companies in Cambodia, with any resistance on their part met with mental and physical torture, including electric shocks, forceful confinement, denial of food and water, etc.,” said the agency. The West Bengal Police on Friday arrested a total of 35 people, including the alleged mastermind of the gherao of seven judicial officers in Malda district, a senior officer said. The accused, identified as advocate Mofakkarul Islam, was arrested while he was trying to board a flight from Siliguri’s Bagdogra airport, he said.  Meanwhile,  a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited in Malda to probe into the gherao incident over the deletion of names in the SIR exercise. After nearly a year-long chase spanning several states, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police Friday arrested a key accused believed to be the mastermind behind a series of thefts across North India involving the forcible removal of ATMs, officers said on Saturday. He was nabbed from the Mewat region. The accused, Mubarik Ali, 37, a resident of Palwal in Haryana and a truck driver by profession, was wanted in a case related to the removal of an Axis Bank ATM in Wazirabad in February this year, in which cash worth over Rs 29 lakh was stolen.
