India Open 2026: Materials from bird’s nest stop women’s doubles semi-final match | Badminton News

In continuation of the unusual things happening at the India Open Super 750 event, the things went from bad to worse as the the women’s doubles semifinal clash between the Chinese duo of Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China and the South Korean pairing of Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hi on Saturday. The first game of the match was halted as something fell from the top. The umpire called the sweepers to clean it and it looked like that it is bird poop again. However, upon confirming it with the officials, it turned out to be materials from a bird’s nest. The materials were picked up with tissue and dispose. This is not the first time that a game was halted due to bird-related issues. Earlier on Thursday, the pre-quarterfinal clash between HS Prannoy and Loh Kean Yew was disrupted twice after bird poop fell on the court sparking widespread criticism of the playing conditions at the event. Unhygienic and polluted At the start of the tournament, Danish shuttler Mia Blichfeldt had complained about …

Tests under way for use of rubberised geo materials in the construction of the 3.2 km long elevated corridor on Anna Salai

Tests are underway for the use of rubberised geo-grids, geo- cells and geo-synthetics in the construction of the 3.2 km long elevated corridor from Saidapet to Teynampet in stretches running over the Chennai Metrorail tunnel at a cost of ₹621 crore. M-sand is being filled inside geo-grids and geo-cells and compacted using water at 50 plus locations to strengthen the soil over the tunnel. Minister for Highways E. V. Velu who inspected the project site on Sunday, urged the contractor to speed up the work. He said that the soil strengthening had been tested and approved by IIT Bombay’s soil mechanics department. This was the first time that a structure was coming up over an underground tunnel, he said. Sources in the Highways Department explained that the 14-mt wide corridor is being constructed in three stretches – 655 mts that do not have the tunnel below where pile foundations are being constructed at 22 locations; for a length of 1955 mts 69 micropiles are being constructed and in 460 mts at Teynampet and Nandanam Metro …

As Delhi Votes, AAP vs BJP Over Seized ‘Promotional Materials’, Cops Respond

New Delhi: On Wednesday morning, as voting for the Delhi Assembly election took place, a furious Aam Aadmi Party claimed that promotional material for the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party had been found at some polling booths in the national capital, in violation of the Model Code of Conduct that is in force. The AAP – which has had several tiffs with the Election Commission in this election, including party boss Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Atishi accusing it of bias, a charge firmly refuted last evening – also claimed Delhi Police, which reports to the Union Home Ministry, were “mute spectators”. In a post on X the AAP said, “What is going on? There is election material openly displayed at the BJP booth… and the police are doing nothing. And the election officers are just watching.”

Label campaign materials created or enhanced using AI: ECI tells pol parties | Latest News India

Jan 16, 2025 01:39 PM IST The Election Commission of India (ECI) asked political parties to issue disclaimers in campaign ads and promotional content when they use synthetic content online and offline The Election Commission of India (ECI) has advised political parties to prominently label their campaign materials created or enhanced using artificial intelligence (AI) or other synthetic, digital means. The ECI in May 2024 asked political parties to take down deepfakes. (HT PHOTO) The advisory was issued days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed cases in poll-bound Delhi against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for using modified content showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Amit Shah. “Prominent and easily discernible labelling of Al-generated content would ensure responsible and transparent campaigning and informed voters,” the ECI advisory said. It added political parties must label all images, videos, audio, or other materials generated or significantly altered using AI with labels such as “AI-generated”, “Digitally Enhanced” or “Synthetic Content”. New Link Found Between Ferroelectric Domain Walls and Superconductivity in 2D Materials

New Link Found Between Ferroelectric Domain Walls and Superconductivity in 2D Materials

Scientists have discovered a unique link between ferroelectric domain walls and superconductivity in two-dimensional van der Waals materials. This breakthrough, credited to research by Gaurav Chaudhary from the University of Cambridge and Ivar Martin from Argonne National Laboratory, sheds light on how specific structural features in these materials enable strong electron interactions. The findings are expected to pave the way for new superconducting devices and innovative applications in the field of condensed matter physics. Sliding Ferroelectricity and Polarisation Reversal According to reports by phys.org, sliding ferroelectricity in certain 2D van der Waals materials, including boron nitride and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), facilitates polarisation reversal under moderate electric fields. This phenomenon allows for large-scale manipulation of layer stacking, significantly impacting the material’s electronic properties. Researchers noted that domain walls—boundaries separating regions with differing orientations of ferroelectric polarisation—exhibit unique characteristics that enhance electron-phonon coupling. Superconductivity Observed at Domain Walls The study revealed that in materials like molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe₂), superconductivity is transiently enhanced near ferroelectric reversal transitions. This enhancement occurs within hysteresis loops where domains of varying …

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Allegedly Permitted Llama AI Models’ Training on Copyrighted Materials

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Allegedly Permitted Llama AI Models’ Training on Copyrighted Materials

Meta is facing a copyright lawsuit over allegedly using copyrighted works to train its artificial intelligence (AI) models. The lawsuit was filed by multiple complainants that also include several bestselling authors. The primary allegation against the tech giant is that it used pirated e-books and articles to train the older versions of its Llama AI models, violating copyright laws. Additionally, the filings also accuse company CEO Mark Zuckerberg of allowing its Llama AI team to torrent a sketchy link aggregator to access the copyrighted materials. The information comes from two separate documents filed with the US District Court for the Northern District of California on Wednesday. The documents, from complainants such as authors Sarah Silverman and Ta-Nehisi Coates, highlight Meta’s testimony given in late 2024 where it was discovered that Zuckerberg permitted the usage of a dataset called LibGen to train its Llama AI models. Notably, LibGen (short for Library Genesis) is a file-sharing platform that offers free access to academic and general-interest content. Many consider it a pirate library as it gives access to …
