Maval landslide: One dead, two feared trapped as NDRF launches rescue operation

One person died after a landslide struck Patal village in Maval tehsil of Pune district on Monday. Two more people are feared trapped beneath the debris, officials said. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, triggering an emergency response from local authorities, ANI reported.  NDRF, PMRDA launch search and rescue operation The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), local administration and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are carrying out an intensive search and rescue operation at the site. Following a distress call, the District Information Office requested immediate assistance from the NDRF. A specialised 30-member rescue team from the 5th Battalion, based in Pune, was rushed to the affected village. The operation is being led by Inspector Ravinder under the supervision of Assistant Commandant Chandraketu Sharma. The team comprises two senior officers and 27 trained disaster response personnel, reported ANI.  The rescue team left for the village at 5:50 am with advanced rescue equipment and disaster management tools to safely navigate the unstable terrain and remove debris. Thirteen Phipson’s shieldtail snakes spotted together in Maval taluka near Pune

Thirteen Phipson’s shieldtail snakes were found by wildlife enthusiast Omkar Dhore while cleaning a small polyhouse, a type of greenhouse where a specialised polythene sheet is used as a covering material, in Vadgaon, Maval taluka, Pune district, on February 4. Dhore informed Jigar Solanki, a member of the Wildlife Rescuer of Maval organisation, on noticing movement on the floor of the polyhouse. Upon searching a small area of about three to four feet in a corner, the snakes were found one after another. Such a discovery is considered a rare occurrence. According to wildlife experts, the Phipson’s shieldtail, a fossorial, burrowing snake of the Western ghats, spends most of its life underground, coming to the surface mainly during heavy rain, flooding of burrows, or when disturbed by digging or construction activity in the area. A FIVE-YEAR-OLD girl was allegedly kidnapped from her home in Maval taluka of Pune district, was sexually assaulted and brutally strangled to death by a man living in the same neighbourhood and known to the victim’s family, the Pimpri Chinchwad police said. Police have arrested the 32-year-old suspect in the early hours of Sunday. A case in this regard was registered at a police station under the Pimpri Chinchwad police jurisdiction. “Both parents of the girl were at work on Saturday evening. In the night, when the mother returned home, she found that the girl was nowhere to be seen. The family searched for her in the area but she could not be found. Late in the night on Saturday, around 11.30 pm, the family approached the police and reported the girl missing.” said an officer from the police station. “Since it was a case of a minor girl missing, a kidnapping case was registered. THE Election Commission of India on Saturday announced a seven-phase elections in the country and a five-phase election for Maharashtra. Maharashtra, which has 48 Lok Sabha constituencies, will vote over five days in a five-phase election that will be held between April 19 and May 20. The polling in Maharashtra will be held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13 and May 20. Voting in Pune city, Maval and Shirur Lok Sabha seats, which are in Pune district, will be held in the fourth phase on May 13. The nomination filing process will commence from April 18. Besides Pune city, Maval and Shirur constituencies, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Raver, Jalna, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (in 2019 polls it was known as Aurangabad), Ahmednagar, Shirdi and Beed will also vote in the fourth phase on May 13. Polling in the prestigious Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, which is also in Pune district, will be held in the third phase on May 7.
