3 min readUpdated: Apr 30, 2026 05:31 PM IST The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), custodians of the Laws of Cricket, has issued a clarification supporting the dismissal of Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi for obstructing the field during the IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, stating that the batsman “clearly meets” the criteria for a wilful act under Law 37. In its explanation, MCC said a batter who changes direction while running, particularly by moving onto the pitch or taking a route that is not the quickest way back to the crease, is considered to be making a deliberate act. It added that Raghuvanshi crossed from the off side towards the middle of the pitch before turning back on the leg side, placing himself between the ball and the stumps. “There has long been an interpretation on this exact matter, where a batter is running as the throw comes in – it is published in Tom Smith’s Cricket Umpiring and Scoring, MCC’s Official Interpretation of the Laws of Cricket, and has …

Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan hits new roadblock: Why the Election Commission is now deciding its fate | Tamil News

4 min readHyderabadMar 20, 2026 03:42 PM IST In what has become one of Indian cinema’s most drawn-out certification battles, Jana Nayagan, actor-politician Vijay‘s final film before entering full time politics, has cleared one hurdle only to face another. Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik addressed the media to clarify the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) position on the matter, following reports that the CBFC’s revising committee had given the film a conditional go-ahead, subject to the Election Commission’s clearance. Her answer was candid, and telling. The issue, she said, presents a “new situation” for the Election Commission of India, and a clarification will be issued after consultations. At the heart of the matter is an intersection of law and precedent that India’s regulatory frameworks have not previously had to navigate. Vijay, who leads the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, which is set to contest the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, is also the protagonist of Jana Nayagan, a political action thriller. Responding to queries on whether a film featuring the actor, who …

MCC issues statement on Salman Agha run-out controversy in Bangladesh vs Pakistan ODI

5 min readUpdated: Mar 18, 2026 04:05 PM IST The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which maintains the laws that govern professional cricket, issued a clarification on Wednesday after Pakistan batter Salman Ali Agha’s controversial run out by Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz during the 2nd ODI between both sides in Dhaka sparked debate over the spirit of cricket. MCC released a statement that reads: “Under Laws, there is little that either umpire could have done differently. The non-striker was clearly out of his ground when the wicket was broken, and the ball was in play. That is out.” “It is also worth pointing out that the non-striker had left his ground when the ball was in play and had just started to attempt to regain his ground when he collided with Mehidy. Furthermore, no batter should attempt to pick the ball up without the consent of the fielding side, and had he done so, he would have been at risk of an Obstructing the field dismissal. In retrospect, he would have been better using that …

Lord’s cricket ground ends its alliance with BrewDog after Tilray Brands who produces medicinal marijuana takes over Beer company

2 min readUpdated: Mar 12, 2026 10:43 PM IST An intense day of cricket and a cold beer in hand at Lord’s is a worthwhile fan experience. However, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which owns the Lord’s cricket ground have ended its alliance with the beer supplier BrewDog at the stadium after the beer’s brand and brewery were sold to Tilray Brands, which is known to make medicinal marijuana, following the alcoholic organisation’s getting into a turbulent period in its history. The deal between MCC and BrewDog was struck in 2024 when the former announced a first-of-its-kind deal to make BrewDog the official beer partners for the next four years; however, the deal has come to an end prematurely just after one year. In a letter to members, Robert Lawson, the MCC chief executive, said: “I am writing to inform you that the MCC Committee has taken the decision to end its contracts with BrewDog, both as an Official Partner of MCC and as the Official Beer Supplier at Lord’s. “Following recent changes to the brewery’s …

From overthrow rules to completion of final over of day in red-ball matches; 73 changes made to Laws of Cricket by MCC | Cricket News

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which maintains the laws that govern professional cricket, on Tuesday announced 73 changes that will come into effect from October 2026. It hasn’t made wholesale changes to how the sport is played, with the tweaks largely focussing on tightening definitions around dismissals, overs and player positioning. One of the key updates is that wicketkeepers will no longer be penalised for having their gloves in front of the stumps when the bowler runs up. The new laws also require the bowling side to complete the final over of the day even after a wicket falls in red-ball cricket. The current practice is for Stumps to be called if a wicket falls in the final over of the day, with the rest of the over being completed at the start of play on the next day. “It was felt unfair that, if a fielding side takes a wicket in the final over of the day, the batting side does not have to send out a new batter,” MCC said. “This doesn’t save …
