Bought for a whopping price of INR 23.75 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Venkatesh Iyer has admitted that there is pressure to live up to the expectations. After multiple failures with the bat, the batter showed a glimpse of what he can do, scoring 60 runs off just 29 balls to help KKR put a 200-run total on the board against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). When asked about the top price tag and the expectations that come with it, Venkatesh gave a smashing reply in the press conference on Thursday. “Once IPL starts, it doesn’t matter whether you were sold for Rs 20 lakh or 20 crore. Two Indian nationals executed in UAE for murders, says MEA | Latest News India

Two Indian nationals who were sentenced to death in separate murder cases in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been executed, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.(File/LiveMint) The two men have been identified as Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu and Muraleedharan Perumthatta Valappil. The UAE’s highest court, the Court of Cassation, upheld their sentences. “The embassy provided all possible consular and legal assistance, including sending mercy petitions and pardon requests to the Government of UAE for the Indian nationals. The UAE authorities informed the embassy on 28 Feb 2025 that these two sentences have been carried out,” the MEA said, according to ANI. It added that the families of the two were informed and that the embassy has been in touch with them and facilitating their participation in the last rites. “Burial of Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu, an Indian national, took place today. DY Chandrachud said he was called independent when he ruled against the government. New Delhi: Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud on Monday said the independence of the judiciary does not mean always delivering verdicts against the government. Speaking at an event here organised by the Indian Express group, Mr Chandrachud said there are pressure groups trying to get favourable verdicts by putting pressure on the courts by using electronic media. “Traditionally, judicial independence was defined as independence from the executive. Independence of the judiciary even now means independence from the government. But that is not the only thing in terms of judicial independence. “Our society has changed. Particularly with the advent of social media, you see interest groups, pressure groups and groups which are trying to use electronic media to put pressure on the courts to get favourable decisions,” he said.
