‘Absolute rubbish’: Ananya Panday’s dance mentor salms ‘selective outrage’ over her Bharatanatyam fusion

Bollywood actor Ananya Panday has been facing backlash on social media for her Bharatanatyam fusion dance sequence in her recent release, Chand Mera Dil. Several Bharatanatyam dancers criticised her moves and, amid the controversy, dancer and choreographer Sandip Soparrkar, who has mentored Ananya in the past, came out in support of the actor. Ananya Panday’s mentor defends her amid criticism On Friday, Sandip Soparrkar took to Instagram to defend Ananya amid the criticism. He wrote, “The outrage against Ananya Panday’s Bharatnatyam dance is absolutely rubbish. The same so-called gatekeepers of classical dance who are screaming today were completely silent when reality shows and social media blurred every line between classical, commercial and fusion dance years ago. Suddenly targeting one young actor for a cinematic performance is hypocrisy at its peak.” He added, “Ananya trained seriously, worked hard and performed exactly what was envisioned by the director and choreographer for …

Bhardwaj, the director of critical hits such as Maqbool, Omkara, Kaminey, and Haider, said he is delighted to lend his support to the budding filmmakers in the country. “Independent cinema survives because some people choose to believe in voices before the world discovers them. Now, it’s in the last stages of conversation.” If all goes as planned, the film could go on floors by summer 2026 and will be shot in Mumbai. Varun Chakaravarthy hit for 9 sixes at T20 World Cup but his mentor isn’t worried about England semifinal

David Miller stepped out. The ball from Varun Chakaravarthy was shorter than he had hoped, but Miller had committed. He swung anyway, launching it straight over long-on. Six. Varun’s head dropped for a moment. Then came the next ball. In seven matches this World Cup, batsmen have hit Varun for nine sixes. Not a huge number. An unusual one. Most are content playing him safely, letting his mystery pass without risk. But something has changed. Miller, Dewald Brevis, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder—all front-foot players, all willing to hit straight even when not quite at the pitch. They’ve backed themselves against a spinner who doesn’t turn the legbreak much anymore. “They are just backing themselves,” AC Pratheepan says. Varun’s mentor has watched every ball of this tournament. “And you have to give it to them. To play a couple of T20 matches without getting hit is impossible. There will be batsmen who will try to score off you. And if you look at Miller, Brevis, Hetmyer and Holder, they are all front-foot players, trying to hit …

‘Still can’t get a 50 off 12 balls’: Mentor Yuvraj Singh teases Abhishek Sharma after India opener’s blazing 14-ball fifty | Cricket News

Abhishek Sharma unleashed sensational carnage on the New Zealand bowlers yet again as India pummeled the visitors by eight wickets to seal an unassailable 3-0 lead in Guwahati on Sunday. Recovering from a duck in the previous outing, Abhishek blew the New Zealand bowlers away as they attempted to make a fight out of a 153-run total. The dashing left-hander stormed to a 14-ball half-century, breaking more records along the way. However, despite his jaw-dropping hitting, Abhishek could not still topple a 19-year-old record held by his famous mentor, Yuvraj Singh. The former India all-rounder continues to hold the record for the fastest T20I half-century by an Indian, also the quickest among all batters in T20Is involving Full-Member Nations. Yuvraj had famously ripped apart England during the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 where he smoked Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over and got to his fifty in all 12 balls. On Sunday, the two-time World Cup winner decided to cheekily roast his mentee, while also congratulating another extraordinary knock. Still can’t get …

Indian wrestling’s father-figure coach and mentor to Olympic medallists gets his due — posthumous Padma Shri

Indian wrestling’s father-figure coach and mentor to Olympic medallists gets his due — posthumous Padma Shri

Vladimir Mestvirishvili, the late Georgian wrestling coach, who shaped the careers of India’s Olympics medal-winning wrestlers Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Bajrang Punia, was named in the list of Padma Shri winners on Sunday. Mestvirishvili’s posthumous Padma award is richly deserved just like that of the other foreigner who won a Dronacharya award in 2012 — Cuban-born boxing coach BI Fernandez, whose trainees include Beijing Olympics bronze medalist Vijender Singh. Bajrang Punia, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist called him a ‘father figure’ to Indian wrestling, while 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt said without Mestvirishvili’s guidance, Indian wrestlers would not have won Olympic medals. Mestvirishvili passed away last year at the age of 81. “Whenever Sushil, Yogeshwar and my names are said, his name should also be taken. He has a major role in the medals won by India at the Olympics,” Bajrang told The Indian Express on Sunday. Yogeshwar, who was coached by Mestvirishvili for nearly 15 years, gave him credit for improving the technique of Indian wrestlers. “After he came to …
