Honda and Nissan have announced plans to merge as the Japanese automakers struggle with competition from rival brands in the electric vehicle market. The two companies confirmed on Monday that they had signed a memorandum of understanding that would create the third largest car maker by sales, behind Toyota and Volkswagen. Nissan alliance member Mitsubishi Motors is also in talks with Honda and Nissan to join the integration, with a decision expected by the end of January. Based on the market capital of all three companies, a finalized merger could result in an entity worth more than 50 billion dollars. Vodafone and Three have been cleared to create the UK’s biggest mobile operator after committing to address concerns around network upgrades and price hikes. The proposed £16.5 billion merger (about $20.9 billion) was approved by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on Thursday following months of regulatory scrutiny, and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025. “Having carefully considered the evidence, as well as the extensive feedback we have received, we believe the merger is likely to boost competition in the UK mobile sector and should be allowed to proceed – but only if Vodafone and Three agree to implement our proposed measures,” Stuart McIntosh, chair of the inquiry group leading the antitrust investigation, said in a statement. HC refuses to entertain PIL to merge NCR cities with Delhi

The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to entertain a public interest litigation seeking merger of Delhi`s neighbouring cities like Meerut, Faridabad and Gurugram with the national capital. The plea said these cities are far away from their respective jurisdictional high courts and therefore should be made part of Delhi, reported PTI. The petitioner also said a new high court should be established for Punjab in Jalandhar as the present high court in the union territory of Chandigarh was inconvenient to access for those residing in places like Amritsar. A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan told the petitioner the reorganisation of the territories of states as well as establishment of high courts was not within the high court`s domain. “Why have you come to the court ? We are not the Parliament. Parliament does not work under my order. We don`t reorganise the boundaries of states. We don`t decide which high court will function from where. Reliance, Disney Announce Joint Venture to Merge Digital Streaming and TV Assets in India

Reliance and Disney on Wednesday announced a strategic joint venture that will merge their digital streaming and television assets in India. The merger will result in Reliance combining the businesses of Viacom18 and Star India into a single unit called Star India Private Limited (SIPL) through a court-approved scheme of arrangement. Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will control 16.34 percent of the joint venture, whereas the other two parties, Viacom18 and Disney, will control 46.82 percent and 36.84 percent, respectively. Reliance has also agreed to invest Rs. 11,500 crore in the venture which will be used to determine its growth strategy. The stakeholders have stated that the transaction values the joint venture at Rs. 70,352 crore on a post-money basis.
