Mahesh Bhatt met Lorraine at 16, wrote letters in blood; Pooja Bhatt says it inspired Aashiqui

When filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt made Aashiqui in 1990, audiences loved it and it became one of the most memorable love stories of Hindi cinema. More than three decades later, his daughter, actor Pooja Bhatt, has revealed that the blockbuster was rooted in a deeply personal chapter of her parents’ lives. Speaking on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, Pooja shared that Aashiqui was inspired by the real-life romance between Mahesh Bhatt and her mother, Lorraine Bright, who later changed her name to Kiran Bhatt. “Aashiqui was based on my mother and father’s love story. My mother was in a Scottish orphanage, and my dad lived in a building across from it. He saw her during a sports day event, jumped the wall to meet her, and got caught.” Pooja said the episode prompted an unforgettable response from her grandmother, Betty Bertha Bright. “My grandmother was called, and she said, ‘Listen, I just put my youngest child in boarding school. If you are old enough to jump the wall, you are old enough to look after her.’” Pooja recalled …

Main Vaapas Aaunga worldwide box office collection day 17: Imtiaz Ali’s new cross-border romance Main Vaapas Aaunga, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari, continues to hold its own at the box office, both in India and worldwide, even during its third weekend, and despite competition from newer and bigger releases like Cocktail 2 and Welcome to the Jungle. On its third Sunday (day 17), Main Vaapas Aaunga added another Rs 4.50 crore to its domestic box office earnings. This was a slight improvement from its third Saturday (day 16) collection of Rs 4.25 crore, after a significant spike from its third Friday (day 15) earnings of Rs 2.75 crore. Thus, over its third weekend, the film collected Rs 11.50 crore in India. This is much less than one-fifth of the opening weekend earnings of the new release — Ahmed Khan’s adventure comedy Welcome to the Jungle — which amassed Rs 63.75 crore over its first weekend in India, as per Sacnilk. However, that film boats of a massive ensemble cast — including Akshay …

This Lagaan actor met his British wife on film’s set: ‘She’s learnt Hindi now’ | Bollywood News

Ashutosh Gowariker’s 2001 seminal period sports drama Lagaan, starring Aamir Khan, completely changed both the life and career of actor Amin Hajee, who played Bagga, the temple drummer, in the movie. Last week, he attended the film’s 25th anniversary celebrations, hosted by Aamir Khan Productions, in Mumbai, accompanied by his daughters and wife Charlotte Whitby-Coles, whom he met for the first time on the movie’s set. Amin Hajee recalled recently that he met his wife Charlotte, thanks to her brother Jamie, who starred in Lagaan as a member of the British cricket team. “My brother-in-law today, Jamie, at that time was playing county cricket. They tested him and they liked him. He is 6’5″ tall. So they told him you are on,” recounted Amin. Since the makers also wanted a number of British extras as the audience for the climactic cricket match, they asked Jamie to get the women of his family along. “They said, ‘We will pay for their tickets, we will even give them a stipend. We want them to sit for those …

Imtiaz Ali says for him, Jab We Met is ‘not’ a love story: I was not coming from a point of knowing anything about love

Starting from Socha Na Tha and Jab We Met to his latest release Main Vaapas Aaunga, Imtiaz Ali has shown romances across generations and decades through his film. While his latest offering has been garnering love all across for the intensity of its central love story, the filmmaker asserts that he does not claim to have the knowledge of love. “I’m not coming from a point of understanding love into the movies that I’m making,” he says. Imtiaz Ali on Jab We Met Imtiaz Ali reflects on his early works as he shares, “In Socha Na Tha, the confusion of Viren was actually my confusion. Sometimes you commit in a direction and your heart pulls in some other direction. That was something I didn’t find an answer for but I made a movie.” He even has a unique take on the cult classic Jab We Met starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Imtiaz says, “Jab We Met, in my mind, was not even about a love relationship. It is about two people who meet …

From Jab We Met to Main Vaapas Aaunga, Imtiaz Ali finally finds the home he fled | Bollywood News

Watching Imtiaz Ali’s new film, Main Vaapas Aaunga, made me wonder where Geet (Kareena Kapoor) from his 2007 hit romantic comedy Jab We Met would fit into its world. Desperate to flee her palatial Patiala home, Geet manifested — and relentlessly chased — an isolated life in the mountains with her love interest, Anshuman. Like Geet does through the film, Imtiaz has also come of age through his career, as one can witness in his latest directorial. Presumably, like Naseeruddin Shah’s character Keenu in Main Vaapas Aaunga, Geet’s ancestors also hailed from Punjab on the other side of the border. Like countless immigrants during the Partition, they would’ve also had to relinquish their homes and lands, get on a train overflowing with people, and set out for an unfamiliar, yet presumably safe destination in what was now a different country. For refugees who’ve struggled hard to make ends meet and give their descendants a life they never had, it’d be rather puzzling to wrap their head around a young daughter of their family who wants …
