3 min readBengaluruMay 20, 2026 08:06 PM IST A report from Bengaluru’s Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has said it is feasible for the Blue Line metro (currently under construction) to be powered entirely by solar energy, leading to crores of rupees in energy savings in the coming years. The report of the study conducted in collaboration with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) from August last year to March 2026 has stated that both phases 2A and 2B of the nearly 60-km-long Blue Line can be powered by solar, while the land required would be already owned by BMRCL. The line will stretch from Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport. This was done with the help of simulation reports from BMRCL, modelling solar energy panels, and other systems across 30 stations of the Blue Line, as well as the elevated viaduct and roofs of the train depots. One person has been arrested in connection with the case, police said. According to officials, train services on the Magenta Line from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park were regulated on Thursday morning following the theft. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Sunday inaugurated the Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch of the line. Owing to the theft, trains in the affected stretch between Bhalswa and Majlis Park were operated at a restricted speed of 25 kmph, while services on the remaining section towards Deepali Chowk continued normally, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said. Patronage for the Kochi metro’s feeder buses is on the rise. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement Over two lakh commuters travelled in the fleet of 15 air-conditioned electric feeder buses that Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) introduced on January 16 on the metro’s feeder routes, the metro agency has said. On concerns over inadequate patronage for the three feeder buses that were introduced on March 19 on the High Court-MG Road-High Court circular route, KMRL said hope was still not lost since the daily patronage for buses in the corridor had doubled during the past couple of weeks to an average of 773 passengers a day. Buses are operating in the passenger-dense corridor every 10 minutes. A total of 8,573 commuters travelled in the feeder buses in the circular route alone. While 1,556 commuters travelled in them in the first week after their launch on the route, their number more than doubled to 5,415 in the week between March 29 and April 4.
