‘Didn’t think I’d play even one match for Black Caps; now playing 100 games is special’

Black Caps captain Michael Bracewell is aiming to do in ODIs what Tom Latham did in Tests – win a series in India. But leading a depleted side for the ongoing series with a final game at Indore, and captaining in his 100th international LOI, the all rounder said he had never expected to play even one game for the Black Caps, let alone a 100. “For a long time, I never thought I’d play once, so to be standing here on the eve of 100 games is pretty special,” he was quoted as saying by Otago Daily Times. Bracewell debuted rather late internationally, at age 31, and played his first one-day match against the Netherlands in 2022. He added he was grateful for the opportunity. “Every one of those games has been a significant achievement, I think, and certainly one that I go out and play with a lot of pride.” Now 34, the skipper who has a chance to seal the series at Indore said his progress as a regular bowler had been …

‘Leaning on Jamieson to captain attack’: Skipper Bracewell sees India tour as vital rehearsal for T20 World Cup | Cricket News

With several of their leading players unavailable due to injuries, stand-in New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell will lead a relatively inexperienced side in the three-match ODI series against India, starting on Sunday. While the Kiwis may lack the experience, the likes of Kyle Jamieson could still prove handy against India on Sunday. Bracewell also confirmed that fast bowler Kristian Clarke would make his debut in the first ODI. “We have Kyle Jamieson, who’s been around the game a long time and has plenty of experience. I’ll be leaning a lot on him as captain to lead the bowling attack. He’s a very skilful bowler,” Bracewell was quoted as saying to reporters on the eve of the match. “We’re still working through the last of our (playing) XI, but I can confirm that Kristian Clarke is making his debut tomorrow (Sunday), so it’s an exciting chance for him. We’re really excited about how he’s been bowling in domestic cricket in New Zealand and also in the build-up over here,” he said. New Zealand will also have …

Champions Trophy | ‘We’re excited to try and learn and play in different conditions’: Michael Bracewell on if India have advantage by playing all matches in Dubai | Cricket News

New Zealand spinner Michael Bracewell sidestepped questions on if India have the advantage in the Champions Trophy by playing in the same stadium while other teams have to travel to and fro, saying that the Kiwis are excited to play in different conditions. Some cricketers, including South African top-order batter Rassie van der Dussen and former Australia skipper Pat Cummins, have said India are in an advantageous position as they have played all their games at one venue while other teams have had to travel to different venues in Pakistan. “Look, it is what it is. It’s been decided, and that’s the way it is, and there’s no point dwelling on that,” said Bracewell, when asked if India have unfair advantage in Dubai. “It’s part of what makes it exciting. I personally think it’s coming to a different ground and trying to figure out those different conditions. Yeah, not much more to say on that other than we’re excited to try and learn and play in different conditions,” he added. Story continues below this ad …
