Why pre-season practice with Yuvraj Singh could be the ‘Midas touch’ for Rishabh Pant

2 min readUpdated: Mar 23, 2026 12:14 AM IST In a bid to make up for lost time and opportunities in white-ball cricket, Rishabh Pant has seemingly undergone a rapid transformation in his physique and cricket over the last few months. Pant, who has been overlooked from India’s T20I squad over the last two years and demoted to the back-up wicket-keeper in ODI cricket, is gearing up for a pivotal IPL 2026 season with the Lucknow Super Giants. The LSG captain was signed at Rs 27.50 crore last year, but his season ended with middling figures, compounded by the captaincy tag that had appeared to bog him down. Before arriving in Chennai — where Lucknow have set up their pre-season base at former India bowling coach Bharat Arun’s academy, Coaching Beyond — Pant spent five days in Mumbai working with Yuvraj Singh, the Indian Express had reported last week. The sessions with Yuvraj, who has played a key role in the development of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, were focused on the basics: retaining shape, …

Midas touch that made every film an occasion

Midas touch that made every film an occasion

If you were to make a pie chart showing the distribution, by language, of the winners of the 71 National Film Awards for Best Feature Film given out since 1954, when the National Film Development Corporation and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting began awarding them, you will see that the biggest slice belongs to the Bengali film industry, which has won 22 times (the Malayalam industry slice, at 13 awards, is a distant second). Puttanna Kanagal (WIKIMEDIA COMMONS) It is another matter that the chart doesn’t tell the whole story; it has been 17 years since a Bengali film won – in the same duration, Malayalam films have won four times, Marathi films thrice, and Kannada not at all. It wasn’t always this way. Kannada films have received the honour six times – the first, in 1970, went to T Pattabhirama Reddy for Samskara; the last, in 2001, was won by director Girish Kasaravalli (for a stunning fourth time) for Dweepa. Of all the auteurs who worked in that golden period of Kannada cinema, …

‘Kalaithanthai’ Karumuttu Thiagaraja Chettiar, an entrepreneur with the Midas touch who made a mark across domains

On April 15, 1959, then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru came down to A. Thekkur, a village in Tirupattur, near Sivaganga to inaugurate a high school building. That the Prime Minister deemed it fit to grace the occasion, perhaps had to do with the man who ran the school — ‘Kalaithanthai’ Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar. In a life, which spanned eight decades, he forayed into several domains and tasted success like none other. He is primarily remembered for his reign over the textile space in south India, which earned him the moniker of ‘Textile Baron’ and contributions to education, launching a slew of colleges and institutes under the brand name of Thiagarajar. Born on June 16, 1893 in the affluent Karumuttu family, Thiagarajan was the youngest son of the second wife of Muthukaruppan Chettiar — who broke the trend of Chettiars taking up the money-lending profession, and forayed into the textile space instead, in 1866. The Karumuttu family imported different types of clothes and sold them in India and Ceylon, Radha Thiagarajan, wife of Thiagarajan, points …

Is Fortnite down? When will it go live again?

Right after the recent Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 update, Epic Games is launching a new revision, rolling out the battle royale downtime, a bittersweet necessary evil. While the fans are busy unloading their fury on X (formerly Twitter), their frowns may soon turn upside down seeing what the campy game has in store for them. Video game updates are tricky affairs, but Fortnite has usually maintained the four-hour streak before the major update kicks in functionally. However, the update’s size is the ultimate determining factor ruling the dreaded “server down” mania. It may just pick up action before anticipated. Gamers should keep refreshing the feed to stay locked in if the servers come back online before the usual downtime …

While Akshay Kumar turned into a hysteria with back-to-back box office success when he discovered his Deshbhakti avatar at the box office, he probably overdid it. There came a time when no one except Akshay Kumar was working at the box office. While he wasn’t delivering blockbusters of sorts, he cracked a certain code that worked well.
