Residents across Tamil Nadu can expect a mix of mild winter chill, patchy fog, and isolated rainfall over the next couple of days, according to the latest advisory issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre.  The weather department has forecast moderate early-morning fog in several western and north-western districts, particularly in the hilly and interior regions. Districts including Nilgiris, Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupathur, Vellore and Ranipet are likely to wake up to misty conditions during the pre-dawn and early hours. Reduced visibility may affect commuters and motorists on highways and ghat roads, prompting authorities to advise caution during morning travel. In contrast to the foggy conditions in the western belt, parts of southern Tamil Nadu and the fertile delta districts are expected to receive light rainfall on Thursday. The meteorological centre has predicted scattered, light showers at one or two places across these regions. Karaikal and adjoining coastal areas may also witness brief spells of rain. Though the rainfall is not expected to be intense, it could provide temporary relief from the prevailing dry weather and …

Mild tension at Gandhi Darshan amid dispute over managing committee

Mild tension prevailed at Gandhi Darshan in the Nampally Exhibition Grounds on Thursday amid allegations of trespassing and an ongoing dispute over the facility’s management. The Exhibition Society, in a letter dated December 23, informed the Begum Bazar police that a new managing committee had been constituted for Gandhi Darshan, stating that no authorised committee existed earlier. It alleged that a man named Prasad Gollanapalli was functioning unilaterally without authorisation from the Sarvodaya Vichar and Prachar Trust and had failed to produce documentary proof despite assurances to the police. Meanwhile, Gollanapalli claimed that he was the secretary of Gandhi Darshan and alleged that members of the Exhibition Society had forcibly entered Gandhi Darshan on Thursday evening, thrown out Gandhian material, literature and other items, and locked the premises. He accused the Society and the Telangana Gandhi Smarak Nidhi of vandalism and attempts to destroy Gandhian legacy. The matter was referred to the All India Gandhi Smarak Nidhi in New Delhi, as provided under the agreement governing Gandhi Darshan. The Nidhi nominated Manish Chaudhary of Domalguda, …

Mark movie review: Kichcha Sudeep’s festive turn is unremarkable, despite mild sparks | Movie-review News

Corrupt politicians, ruthless gangsters, hapless citizens and a maverick cop who ties all of them together: the modus operandi one saw in Vijay Karthikeyaa’s debut Max (2024) is back in a strikingly similar manner in Mark, the new action-thriller starring Kichcha Sudeep. The filmmaker’s sophomore project has the star actor playing the eponymous cop (short for Ajay ‘Mark’andeya) who is Max’s doppelgänger in every aspect possible. Mark is suspended from his police duties for his unruly yet effective ways of operating, but an odd face-off with a drug nexus leads him into a dark world where children have been mysteriously kidnapped, and a huge political conspiracy is unfolding simultaneously. The nexus’s barbaric kingpin Bhadra (Naveen Chandra) finds his grand plans being jeopardised by his own younger brother, Rudra, while chief-minister-aspirant Adikeshava (Shine Tom Chacko) turns the city of Mangaluru upside down in the search for a mobile phone. Mark might have planned to merrily drink his suspension time away, but when his mother ends up getting attacked during all the aforementioned commotion, he finds himself suddenly …

Wireless earphones are becoming an essential part of our lives, and everyone now has a pair slipped inside their denim pockets or handbags. The only questions most people now seem to be asking are how much they spend on these products and what features they need, given their use cases. The Oppo Enco Buds3 Pro+ is another option for Indian users who struggle to listen to their favourite songs in a noisy metro.  The Oppo Enco Buds3 Pro+ comes in a very interesting, sleek oval case that is perfect to slip into the small pocket of your jeans, which is witnessing a rebirth thanks to TWS devices. Inside, the earbuds have a regular design that is comfortable to wear for long hours. However, the silicone tips that came fitted were small for me and I had to find the extra pairs in the box for a better fit and seal.  When I first used the earbuds with the iPhone, I could not feel the noise-cancelling. That is when I downloaded the HeyMelody app to control …

Summer on the wane in Kerala, signalling mild weather and monsoon ahead

The summer rains that lashed Kerala at frequent intervals during this summer helped the State heave a sigh a relief. | Photo Credit: K K Mustafah The peak summer season is nearing to a close in Kerala even as the monsoon is on its way to the State. After two oppressive heat years, temperature mostly remained within limits during this peak summer season, with mercury hovering below the 40-degree Celsius mark across Kerala. In 2024 and 2023, temperatures crossed 40 degrees Celsius in Palakkad and at Vellanikkara in Thrissur.
