Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday alleged that the Congress did not pay attention to Manipur and other north-eastern states during its rule, leading to the rise of several militant groups in the region. “The recent violence in Manipur was not the first such incident that happened in the state as 500-800 lives were lost in ethnic clashes in the past, but the previous governments at the Centre never paid attention,” the Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister stated while speaking to reporters in Nagpur city of Maharashtra on Friday, October 4. Soldier dies in landmine blast; property attached in militancy case in J&K

One soldier died and two others were injured in an explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Pir Panjal valley’s Rajouri.  An official said the soldiers were hit by the explosion caused by the landmine when they “inadvertently stepped over it”. The incident took place in Naushera Sector of Rajouri district, close to the LoC. Meanwhile, the J&K police attached a property of a local accused of harbouring militants. An official spokesman said the police in Anantnag, along with the Executive Magistrate concerned, attached the residential property of Abdul Salam Rather at Tangpawa Kokernag. “During the investigation, it had surfaced that Zahoor Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Salam Rather, was working as a terrorist associate and was providing food, shelter, and other logistic support to killed terrorists identified as Asif Reshi alias Khubaib and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat alias Talha, at his residential house,” the police said. It falls within ambit of ‘proceeds of terrorism’ under Section 2(g), Section 25 of UA(P) Act 1967, the police said.  Source link

Militancy at Its Lowest Ebb in J&K; Jammu Region Almost Cleared of Menace: DGP

Militancy in Jammu and Kashmir is at its lowest ebb and the Jammu region almost cleared of the menace due to the pro-active approach of security agencies along with the cooperation of people, Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said on Saturday. He said police, along with other security forces, are frustrating on a daily basis the Pakistani conspiracies to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the Union Territory. “If you take into account the facts and figures, the militancy has reached its lowest ebb (in Jammu and Kashmir). Barring one district where three to four terrorists are active, the rest of nine districts in Jammu region are militancy-free,” Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here. He said 2022 proved a most successful year for the security agencies in their fight against terrorism.
