Four military advisers, patrol vessels, AI push: What PM Modi’s Seychelles visit delivered

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Seychelles delivered far more than ceremonial optics and diplomatic symbolism, resulting in a major expansion of defence cooperation, capacity building and emerging technology partnerships between the two countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacts with people as he visits Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple, in Victoria on Monday. Among the most significant outcomes was India’s decision to once again depute four Military Advisers to Seychelles, reviving an arrangement that had been discontinued by the previous government in the island nation. The return of the advisers marks a major strategic reset and deepens India’s integration into Seychelles’ security architecture at a time when the Indian Ocean is emerging as one of the world’s most contested geopolitical theatres. Four military advisers return The four Military Advisers will work closely with Seychelles’ defence and security institutions, helping strengthen operational coordination, training, planning and institutional capacity. Their return restores a long-standing mechanism that had served as an important pillar of bilateral defence cooperation before being discontinued in recent years. After handing Mojtaba a ‘win,’ spooked US threatens new blockade, more military strikes

Published on Jun 19, 2026 01:12 am IST The guns may have fallen silent, but the threat of war has not disappeared. Just hours after the United States and Iran signed a historic peace Memorandum of Understanding, Washington delivered a stark reminder that the agreement would be enforced under the shadow of American military power. U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the Pentagon remains prepared to resume military operations if Tehran fails to honour the commitments made under the newly signed agreement. According to Hegseth, the deal is not built on trust but on verification, with Washington making it clear that any violation by Iran could trigger a renewed military response. The warning comes at a time when Iran continues to emphasise its strategic leverage over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass. In response, the United States has signalled that it could reimpose an “ironclad blockade” against Iran if Tehran does not comply with the agreement.   Home …

Why US has listed Alibaba, BYD and Baidu as Chinese military companies

Why US has listed Alibaba, BYD and Baidu as Chinese military companies

Earlier this week, the US Department of War added major Chinese companies — including e-commerce giant Alibaba, internet search engine Baidu and EV company BYD — to an official list of “Chinese military companies” operating directly or indirectly in the US. China’s foreign ministry said the list “unreasonably suppressed” Chinese companies and urged the US to “correct its mistaken practices.” Chinese companies, too, criticised the move. BYD told Reuters that the decision harmed “its development achievements in the United States”. Similarly, Alibaba said it was not a Chinese military company “nor part of any military-civil fusion strategy”, and that it would consider appropriate legal action. What is the basis of such inclusions, how does it affect their operations, and what does it say about the state of the larger US-China geopolitical competition? Basis of links to Chinese military The list is in accordance with Section 1260H of the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021. The Act authorises appropriations for military activities of the US Department of Defense. Here, Section …

US Army plans military executions after 50 years — will Trump approve death orders? Operation Resolute Justice Explained

The United States Army is reportedly preparing contingency plans to carry out military executions for the first time in more than 50 years, according to an internal document reviewed by ABC News. President Donald Trump arrives on Air Force One, Friday, June 5, 2026, at Morristown Airport in Morristown, New Jersey. (AP Photo/Mark Schiefelbein) The plan, referred to internally as “Operation Resolute Justice,” outlines procedures that would be activated if presidential approval is granted. It involves the transfer of four military inmates currently on death row from the US Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to the federal execution facility in Terre Haute, Indiana. If implemented, it would mark the first military execution of service members since 1961, a significant break from decades of non-use of capital punishment within the US armed forces. Presidential approval While military courts are permitted to issue death sentences, executions cannot proceed without authorization from the President of the United States. Army spokesperson Cynthia Smith confirmed that such preparations are part of long-standing contingency exercises rather than an active execution …

Trump calls it ‘a very good reason’ to restart war if Iran kills US military personnel | World News

3 min readWashington DcUpdated: Jun 5, 2026 03:47 PM IST US President Donald Trump has declared that if Iran kills American military personnel, it would constitute “a very good reason” to restart full-scale military conflict with the Iranian regime. Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, Trump established what he termed a clear “red line” in the ongoing tensions with Iran. When directly asked whether the killing of American troops would trigger renewed military action, the US President confirmed that such an event would justify resuming the war. Trump’s warning “This would be a very good reason to restart the war,” Trump stated regarding the potential death of US service members at Iranian hands. In the same White House briefing, Trump downplayed Iran’s military capabilities and said, “They have neither a navy nor an air force; we have eliminated their leadership. They had 159 ships, and all of them are lying at the bottom of the sea. We have taken photos of them down there.” Trump further dismissed reports of Iranian strength as …

General Manoj Naravane’s The Curious and the Classified reveals the humorous side of military life | Books and Literature News

It does not begin with battle. It begins with banter. With a question tossed across a mess table, with a ritual poured into two bottles and three glasses, with a rank briefly forgotten and a story quietly shared. The Curious and the Classified resists the expected entry point into the Indian armed forces. There are no marching boots at the threshold, no medals clinking for attention. Instead, General Manoj Naravane ushers us in through the side door—through wit, whimsy, and the warm, worn corridors of memory. What unfolds is not a manual of military might, but a mosaic of military mind. Naravane writes as a soldier-scholar, but more importantly, as a custodian of culture. The book gathers myths, mischief, and meaning with a collector’s care. A backronym becomes a breadcrumb; a regimental legend becomes a lantern. In these pages, the Indian armed forces are not merely an institution of discipline—they are revealed as an ecosystem of emotion, an inheritance of habits, a theatre where the absurd and the sacred sit side by side without apology. …
