After Trudeau Exit, India Recalls “Licence To Extremists”

New Delhi: Days after Mark Carney replaced Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister of Canada, India, on Friday, recalled “the downturn in India-Canada relations”. New Delhi squarely blamed the “licence given to extremists” under Justin Trudeau for the strained ties, hoping to rebuild them after the change in Canada’s leadership. Justin Trudeau’s ouster was complete last week when Canada’s ruling Liberal Party replaced him with a new prime minister. An entirely new Cabinet was sworn in on March 14. Both Ottawa and New Delhi now hope to rebuild ties, which currently are at a historic low. On a question regarding Canada at a weekly press briefing, India’s Ministry of External Affairs today said that “The downturn in India-Canada relations was caused by the license that was given to the extremist and secessionist elements in the country”, adding that “Our hope is that we can rebuild our ties based on mutual trust and sensitivity.” #WATCH | Delhi: On India-Canada relations, MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says, “The downturn in India-Canada relations was caused by the license that …

India A “Cyber Adversary”, Says Trudeau Government, New Delhi Shreds Claim

New Delhi: The Justin Trudeau-led Canadian government’s latest action suggests it has started treating India as an enemy country. India has been added to a list of enemy nations in terms of cyber security and has been labelled a ‘cyber adversary’. New Delhi today called it another Canadian strategy to attack and malign India internationally. In a press conference today, the Ministry of External Affairs also said that under Trudeau’s administration, senior Canadian officials have openly confessed that Canada is seeking to manipulate global opinions against India. The foreign ministry also said that like other instances, these allegations in their cyber security report are made without a shred of evidence. “We see this as another Canadian strategy to attack and malign India. Uncertainty for Goans who took Portuguese citizenship after MEA modifies memo | India News

People from erstwhile Portuguese territories in India (Goa, Daman and Diu), whose Indian passports had been revoked after acquiring Portuguese citizenship, could be stuck in limbo after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) revised its recent circular that had been expected to pave the way for them to apply for an Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card. While a passport ‘surrender certificate’ has so far been mandatory for those who want to apply for OCI, an April 4 office memorandum issued by the MEA had raised hopes that a ‘revocation order’ – a document the memo said would be mandatorily issued to those whose passports were revoked – would also be accepted as an alternative document. However, a corrigendum by the MEA dated April 30 has brought uncertainty in the matter. While the MEA had said in the April 4 memorandum that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has “decided to accept ‘revocation certificate’ as an alternative document in lieu of surrender certificate”, the April 30 corrigendum said this is only “under consideration” by the …
