The ministry of information and broadcasting on Thursday issued an advisory cautioning social media influencers against endorsing offshore online betting and gambling platforms. The ministry said that such advertisements have significant financial and socio-economic implications for consumers, particularly the youth. The advisory came in response to increasing instances of advertisements promoting offshore betting and gambling platforms. (Shutterstock) “The ministry hereby strongly advises all endorsers and influencers on social media to refrain from showing such promotional content/advertisements, including surrogate advertisements, of offshore online betting and gambling platforms in any form whatsoever,” the advisory said.
