The famous Gulmarg Gondola cable car in Jammu and Kashmir was hit by a technical snag on Monday, stranding more than 300 tourists mid-air for hours in 65 cabins of Asia’s highest ropeway, prompting a massive, seven-hour multi-agency rescue operation. Transperson dies by suicide in Nagpur hospital after losing both legs in mishap

A 35-year-old transperson died by suicide at a government-run hospital in Nagpur on Thursday, nearly a month after losing both legs in a train accident, news agency PTI reported, quoting the police. The victim was a resident of Maharashtra’s Amravati district.  According to officers, she earned a livelihood by begging on trains. Last month, she reportedly fell from a moving train and sustained severe injuries, following which both her legs had to be amputated. She was initially admitted to Irwin Hospital in Amravati and was later shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Nagpur for further treatment. Police have registered an accidental death case and launched a probe into the incident. An official from Ajni police station said, “The exact reason behind the suicide is not yet clear. To resolve this dilemma, a Parliamentary Committee has recommended that the government create a live public dashboard showing the location of hospitals empanelled under the PM-RAHAT scheme to enable Good Samaritans (or Rah-Veer) to take the injured persons to the relevant facility during the critical “golden hour”. The committee has also recommended that the dashboard be integrated with the existing 108 ambulance network. On February 13, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) launched the Prime Minister-Road Accident Victims’ Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme against the backdrop of rising road mishaps in India. The standing committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, though, raised concern over the achievement target of the scheme as “unquantified”. Following a road accident in Chakan, a private bus driver was allegedly murdered at Mankar Parking in Kalewadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad recently. The police have identified the deceased as Sachin Dhondiba Sonkamble (28), an original resident of Roha in Nanded district. His brother Vitthal Sonkamble (38) lodged an FIR for murder at Wakad police station in Pimpri Chinchwad on Friday. As per the press release issued on Saturday, deceased Sachin worked as a driver on a private bus of Lakshmi Holidays travel company. Police said the bus met with an accident at Chakan on November 28, 2025. After the mishap, Sachin went to Mankar Parking, where he was allegedly found in an injured condition on the afternoon of November 29. He was initially taken to Aundh hospital, but was later shifted to Sassoon General Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries at the Sassoon hospital this week, police said.
