ED summons TMC MLA Madan Mitra’s wife, two sons in municipal recruitment ‘scam’

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned TMC MLA Madan Mitra’s wife and his two sons for questioning next week in connection with its money laundering probe into the alleged municipal recruitment scam in West Bengal, a senior official said on Tuesday. The development comes weeks after the ED conducted simultaneous searches at multiple premises linked to Mitra in connection with the alleged recruitment scam. (PTI) The summons were issued after the probe agency came across information linking the family members to certain financial transactions under scrutiny in the case, he said. “During the course of investigation, these financial transactions came to light in which the names of the MLA’s wife and his two sons surfaced. They have been summoned next week to record their statements,” the senior ED official told PTI. “The probe is progressing on the basis of documentary and financial evidence. Feb 18, 2025 08:06 AM IST Maharashtra Aarogya Mitras will strike indefinitely from Tuesday, demanding wage hikes, claiming their skilled work is undervalued as unskilled labor. MUMBAI: Aarogya Mitras, who are instrumental in the implementation of the state health insurance scheme, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Aarogya Yojana (MJPJAY), will go on a state-wide indefinite strike from Tuesday outside the district collector offices from 10am, demanding hike in their wages. Aarogya Mitras to go on indefinite strike from today demanding wage hike Ganesh Shinde, vice-president of Maharashtra Aarogya Mitra Workers Association (MAMWA), said, “We operate the whole system – from the MJPJAY portal to the documentation process – which should qualify us as skilled labours. Yet, we are paid as unskilled labours.” The Aarogya Mitras are appointed by the state at various network hospitals registered under the MJPJAY depending on the flow of patients. Government hospitals across the State, including Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital, experienced minor disruptions on Thursday, as over 850 Aarogya Mitras continued their strike for the second day. Aarogya Mitras, who support patients under the Rajiv Aarogyasri Health Care Trust at government hospitals, began their strike on Wednesday due to unmet demands. “Hospitals like Gandhi and Osmania handle over 1,500 to 2,000 outpatient visits daily, many of whom are low-income patients reliant on Aarogyasri services. With no staff available at the Aarogyasri counters, hospitals are facing significant challenges,” said Bhupal, president of Telangana United Medical and Health Employees Union. Mr. Bhupal mentioned that union members will meet Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha on Friday. “We hope the Minister will understand the issues we are facing and address them promptly,” he added.
