In a significant relief for director Aditya Dhar’s Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the hurdles that had cast uncertainty on its impending release. Following the Delhi High Court’s directions to consider the objections raised by the parents of Army officer Major Mohit Sharma, who claimed that the movie appears to be directly inspired by his life, the board re-examined Dhurandhar on Tuesday, December 2. Subsequently, it ruled that the spy actioner is a work of fiction with no factual or biographical connection to Major Mohit Sharma. In their petition to the High Court, Major Mohit Sharma’s parents, who was martyred during a counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2009, alleged that Dhurandhar, purportedly based on their son’s life, was created without their consent or that of the Indian Army. Seeking a stay on the film’s release, they also demanded a private screening before its worldwide release.
