According to CSK sources, 44-year-old Dhoni, who is on the sidelines after suffering a calf strain at the pre-season camp, is now close to regaining full fitness. CSK’s next match is an away fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but there is no confirmation if Dhoni will travel with the team. CSK are eighth out of 10 teams on the points table, winning two of their five games. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team lost three in a row before winning their last two home matches, against Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Dhoni has been following CSK’s home matches from the team hotel but has been seen at practice sessions. When facing throwdowns, he has shown no discomfort. IPL 2026: ‘Maybe Dhoni is telling them to run the show’

3 min readApr 3, 2026 07:07 PM IST Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made a big statement on his former Indian Premier League franchise, saying in the Chennai Super Kings setup, star player and former India captain MS Dhoni may not be as involved as he once was. Ahead of their first home game of the IPL 2026 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Chepauk, Dhoni’s availability is still uncertain. The five-time champions were dealt a huge blow when their ex-captain was ruled out for two weeks following a calf strain. Ashwin said Dhoni might not be as involved, wanting current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and head coach Stephen Fleming to run the show themselves in order to prepare the franchise for a transition once he retires from the league. “None of us can predict from the outside that what is the relation between Gaikwad, Fleming and Dhoni. I do know that Fleming and Gaikwad sit and have a lot of discussions. Maybe Dhoni is telling them to run the show and learn as they have …

Which is MS Dhoni’s favourite football team? Former CSK teammate Sam Billings answers | Cricket News

3 min readUpdated: Mar 17, 2026 04:34 PM IST Former Chennai Super Kings player Sam Billings recently opened up about how he used to spend time with Mahendra Singh Dhoni watching Manchester United matches during his stay with the franchise from 2018-2019 where he was part of the title-winning sqaud. “Dhoni. Has to be,” the English player answered in the Stick To Cricket podcast when he was asked who the best franchise player he has played with. “I just think in terms of his captaincy, his aura. He is fantastic. In terms of so incredibly calm and he is genuinely cool. There’s not many cool people. You don’t meet many cool people nowadays,” he said. “But he is just what a lovely guy, considering how much stardom he has and so much of a superstar. Obviously a Man United fan like myself and so we’d watch every Man United game because he can’t leave the hotel, he can’t go downstairs to the hotel bar. He has a little shisha man who looks after the shisha. …

We all have a fire inside of us…we need to recognize when that is starting to flicker: Tom Moody on MS Dhoni | Ipl News

The Chennai Super Kings have had a rough 2025 Indian Premier League season. They were the first team to get eliminated from the tournament this year. In addition to questions over the performances of some of the players, there were also growing speculations over MS Dhoni’s role in the side, which only increased as the campaign went along after he was retained as an uncapped player. Midway through the season, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was the talisman with the bat, got injured, and the franchise decided to hand over the captaincy to Dhoni yet again. “Every team is a mirror of their leaders, and he is such a significant leader, and has been for so long. We all have a fire inside of us, and at times we need to recognize when that is starting to flicker, and if not, go out. I just don’t know whether what I am seeing is correct, but certainly my observation is that the spark is not there that I have seen in previous years,” former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom …

Which regional language commentary intrigues MS Dhoni the most? It’s not Hindi, English or Tamil but…

MS Dhoni, CSK legend and former India World Cup winner, said he valued the outsider’s perspective and mined commentator’s takes for insights, while speaking on the latest episode of MS Dhoni Experience. He also spoke of regional language game-calls striking a connect, and was fascinated by the trend, though his fascination was neither for Hindi or English (Indian English is a regional variant of English, the region being the subcontinent), nor Tamil, which draws immense numbers. Dhoni said regional commentary was wondrous for him, and he was intrigued by what the Haryanvi mic-yakkers sounded like, while adding he found the “Bihari” Comms energetic because of how the speakers would drown in the games. “I haven’t heard a lot of regional commentary, but I know that Bihari (Bhojpuri) commentary is highly energetic. It reminds me of old-school radio commentary, where the commentators were very involved. I find that very interesting,” he said. But there was one particular style that Dhoni was keen to listen to: Haryanvi. “Many people prefer to listen in their regional language—it’s their mother …

‘If you play good cricket, you don’t need PR’: MS Dhoni gives his thoughts on social media | Cricket News

Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the rare sportspersons who tends to stay away from social media in an age that is dominated by it. Even when he was asked by his managers to stay active on social media, Dhoni remained steadfast that if he was playing good cricket, he would not need PR. “I have never been a big fan of social media. Throughout, I have had so many managers and all of them keep pushing. I started playing in 2004. Twitter got popular later on after which Instagram came in. All the managers told me, ‘you should do some PR, build this and build that’. I had the same answer that if you play good cricket, you don’t need PR,” Dhoni said in an interview with Eurogrip Tred Talks. Dhoni will next be seen in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League after the 43-year-old was retained for Rs 4 crore by the Chennai Super Kings, with the franchise making full use of the modified uncapped player retention rule. …

Dhoni has recently said that he is looking to enjoy the last years left for him to play cricket. “I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play,” Dhoni was quoted as saying to TOI. “When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do. It’s not easy. “The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years. I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit,” he added.
