Delhi may get another AIIMS-like medical institute, govt mulling integrating 4 big hospitals | Delhi News

In a significant move aiming to enhance the healthcare facilities in the Trans-Yamuna area and develop the Capital as the hub of medical excellence, the Delhi government is mulling the integration of four big hospitals — Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI), Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) and the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) — and set up an autonomous multispeciality advanced facility similar to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), The Indian Express has learnt. The proposal — prepared by an expert committee under the Delhi Health department — has suggested naming the advanced healthcare facility as the Delhi Institute of Medical Sciences, and bringing RGSSH, IHBAS and the DSCI under GTB Hospital as the leading institution. The four hospitals are located close to each other in Northeast Delhi’s Dilshad Garden area. Strengthening mental health services at IHBAS —  emulating the standards set by National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) — has also been proposed. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently held …

UK mulling potential AI regulation

Officials at the UK’s Department of Science, Innovation and Technology have started drafting legislation to regulate AI models, Bloomberg reports. It’s unclear how any future regulation will intersect with the UK’s already-extant AI Safety Institute, which already conducts safety tests of the most powerful AI models. However, the UK does not officially have a policy preventing companies from releasing AI models that have not been evaluated for safety. Neither does it have the power to pull any existing model from the market if it violates safety standards or to fine a company over those violations. (In comparison, the European Union’s AI Act can impose fines if AI companies violate certain safety benchmarks.) Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has previously said there’s no need to “rush to regulate” AI models and platforms. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports, other government officials have raised the possibility of amending the UK’s copyright rules to strengthen the opt-out option for training datasets. Any potential bill is still a ways off, according to Bloomberg. A break for Jasprit Bumrah: Team India mulling when to give their biggest match winner some rest | Cricket News

With a decent break before the third Test and the five-match series locked 1-1, the biggest concern for India is how their biggest match-winner Jasprit Bumrah shapes up in the next week. India are yet to name the squad for the remaining three Tests. Though Bumrah is certain to make it, the lingering question is when to give him a rest. Last week, despite Mohammed Siraj bowling full throttle at the nets two days before the Test, India’s think-tank decided to send him home from Vizag. He could have avoided taking the flight to Vizag in the first place, which would have given him a few extra days to spend at home. But it was a decision they took at the eleventh hour, keeping the larger picture of workload in mind and it wasn’t just that of Siraj, but also Bumrah. With both needed for the final Test in Dharamsala, India have to use them judiciously at Rajkot or Ranchi, where they will pair up again. In the two Tests so far, apart from Ravichandran …

Google Mulling Gemini AI-Powered Chatbot to Tell Personal Life Stories Using Photos, Search Activity: Report

Google is considering the development of a new chatbot that is capable of telling the story of a user’s life based on their photos and search history, according to a recent CNBC report. The search giant could use large language models (LLMs), such as the recently unveiled multimodal Gemini model, as part of a new AI project. Gemini is touted to compete with OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, and Google claims that its top-of-the-line model outperforms its closest competitor on some benchmarks. A CNBC report that cites internal documents states that one of Google’s AI teams has suggested that the company develop an AI-based technology to use data from users’ smartphones — including photos and their search activity — that will be consumed by an AI-powered chatbot. The project, dubbed Project Ellman, can then use the information to provide answers to “previously impossible questions”, according to the report. Instead of simply relying on “just pixels with labels and metadata”, Project Ellman would try to spot patterns in a user’s photos, studying photos and memories before and after …
