The Mumbai police arrested a 38-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting a five-year-old girl with a hot iron rod for hiding the woman’s pet cat. The girl’s family alerted the police following which an FIR was registered. An officer said the incident took place around 11 am on Thursday at Shivaji Nagar in Govandi. The girl’s parents, who have been residing there for the past three months, had left her in the neighbour’s care. At the neighbour’s house, the girl was with Nishad Shaikh, 38, when she hid the woman’s cat, officers said. When the girl refused to tell her where the cat was, the woman got upset. Shaikh allegedly hit the child on her head using an iron rod and then used a heated iron rod to burn her right leg. The girl was treated at Shatabdi Hospital and discharged. As many as nine people were arrested in connection with allegedly assaulting and killing a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) worker in Mumbai’s Malad East area. The deceased has been identified as Akash Maeen (27). A 22-year-old man was arrested from the eastern suburbs of Mumbai on Sunday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old boy, police said. According to police, the incident took place on Sunday evening when the boy went out to purchase groceries. The accused started talking to him and promised to take him to a shop to make the purchases. The man, however, took him to a dark alley where he forced himself on the child. When the boy reached home, he told his parents about the incident. The family members took him out when the child identified the accused who was loitering in the area. The man was then thrashed by the family members and local residents. The family then handed over the accused to the local police station where the boy’s statement was recorded and the man was arrested. An FIR was registered on charges of rape. The Meghwadi police registered a case on Friday based on the complaint of the man from Jogeshwari (East)and began a probe. In January, while using the dating app he downloaded a year ago, the complainant received a message from Ramos Bennard, who claimed to be a doctor living in Texas. He befriended the complainant and also shared some of his pictures. After two or three days, Bennard shared a phone number, and then the two started conversing on WhatsApp. On January 30, Bennard asked the complainant to help him visit popular tourist places in India during his vacation starting on February 5.
