(File Photo) Maharashtra Mumbai News Live Updates: Maharashtra has suspended bus services to Karnataka following an attack on a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus and its driver by pro-Kannada activists in Karnataka’ Chitradurga on Saturday. According to PTI, the face of the driver was blackened during the assault. The incident provoked Shiv Sena (UBT) workers in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur who tied party flags on a Karnataka bus and painted it black. Language dispute re-surfaces: Before the attack in Chitradurga, a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus conductor was allegedly assaulted in a village in Karnataka’s Belagavi after an altercation with two students for speaking in Kannada, not Marathi. Belagavi, home to a significant population of Marathi speakers, has been the focal point of a territorial dispute between the two states.

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking will deploy a total of 629 buses for the Lok Sabha elections on polling day, May 20th for polling duties. This includes buses for Mumbai and other key constituencies in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), all of which are voting on the same day. According to BEST, 382 buses have been reserved for suburban areas and 212 buses for the city. Additionally, 10 buses in the city and 25 buses in the suburbs, equipped with wheelchair facilities, will be made available. The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is hosting the annual Pratibimb Marathi Natya Utsav from May 17 to 19. The three-day festival will present seven plays, apart from organising a bunch of activities such as readings, workshops, campus tours, talks and discussions to celebrate the Marathi theatre community. Govt to introduce bill extending Maratha quota in special state legislative session today

Maharashtra cultural affairs minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Monday said the state government has decided to declare the gauntlet sword (also called dandpatta in Marathi) of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj as the state weapon. The announcement came on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the coronation of the 17th century Maratha King warrior. Mungantiwar said that Shivaji’s sword is significant in Maratha history since it was a distinctive weapon of the Maratha army. “Since it is important to highlight the significance of the weapon, a decision has been taken to declare it as a state of weapon of Maharashtra,” he said, adding that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave an approval to declare the ‘danpatta’ the state weapon at the Shivaji Jayanti celebrations at Agra fort on Monday.
