Central govt declares May 28 holiday for Bakrid 2026

The Central government has announced that all administrative offices located in Delhi and New Delhi will remain closed on May 28, 2026 on account of Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid). The holiday has been shifted from the earlier notified date of May 27, 2026. According to the official notification, issued by Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the revised holiday will apply to all Central government administrative offices functioning in the national capital region. The change was made to align the public holiday with the observance of the Bakrid festival. Bakrid celebrations Id-ul-Zuha, also known as Bakrid, is one of the most important Islamic festivals and is celebrated across India with prayers, charitable activities and family gatherings. Zakaria, who has served as a corporator since 2007, completed three consecutive terms before the elected civic body was dissolved in 2022. He was unable to contest a fourth term after his constituency, Ward No. 101 (Bandra), was reserved for a woman candidate. Subsequently, the Congress fielded Raja Rahebar Khan from the adjoining Ward No. 102, who went on to become the sitting corporator from the area. In the wake of this, residents of Bandra have initiated a campaign demanding that Zakaria be appointed as a nominated corporator in the civic body.
