A sessions court on Wednesday granted bail to Kavita Shah, a 47-year-old woman booked for the alleged murder of her husband by poisoning him with arsenic and thallium mixed with his food. Kavita was arrested in 2022, days after the death of her husband, Kamalkant Shah, a textile businessman in Santacruz. The police had claimed Shah was hospitalised after he complained of pain in September 2022. A month before that, his mother Sarla was admitted with similar complaints and had passed away. Medical tests on Shah revealed excessive traces of thallium and arsenic, which can be used as poison. After Shah passed away during hospitalisation, the police filed a case of murder and arrested Kavita along with co-accused Hitesh Jain, claiming they had planned the murder together as they were in a relationship. Naresh Raval assaulted his lawyer, Vitthal Pandit, after a heated argument on Saturday. Raval claimed that Pandit allegedly made indecent advances at his wife while the three were travelling to Padra. “The accused said that when he stepped out of the car near Sindhrot, the lawyer allegedly made indecent moves at Raval’s wife. When Raval returned, they had a heated argument and he assaulted Pandit with a hard fibre rod leaving him injured. The locals, who were at the spot following the commotion, caught Raval and called in an ambulance to rush Pandit to the hospital.
