AI firms to pay part of global revenue as royalty for using content of Indian creators: DPIIT officials | Business News

AI firms to pay part of global revenue as royalty for using content of Indian creators: DPIIT officials | Business News

The government’s recommendation to make AI firms pay a portion of their earnings towards royalties to content creators — whose data the developers use to train AI models — will be linked to their global revenue, and not to what they earn in India, a senior official from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), said Thursday. Earlier this week, a committee set up by the DPIIT released its working paper titled ‘One Nation, One License, One Payment: Balancing AI Innovation and Copyright’, which made sweeping recommendations for a new framework for AI training, including a mandatory blanket license requiring all AI companies to pay royalties for using copyrighted work to creators. It has also recommended the creation of a government-appointed panel to decide the royalty fee. Simrat Kaur, Director at DPIIT, told reporters that the government-appointed committee can set a certain percentage of the global revenue earned by an AI developer from the commercialisation of the AI system trained on copyrighted content to calculate the royalty they would have to pay …

Taylor Swift Reducing Fame Comment From Donald Trump Gets Slammed by American Federation of Musicians; Know What It Said

Former President Donald Trump launched online attacks against two music icons, Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen, in posts on Truth Social on Friday, May 16. Trump wrote, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” He also criticized Springsteen, calling him “dumb as a rock” and “a pushy, obnoxious JERK.” These remarks followed Trump’s previous online comments about Swift after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Trump has also mocked her appearance at the Super Bowl, where she was booed by some fans. His remarks about Springsteen came after the singer criticized Trump’s administration at a concert in Manchester, England. The American Federation of Musicians (AFM) quickly responded to Trump’s comments. In a statement, AFM International President Tino Gagliardi said the union would not stay silent while its members were attacked. “The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada will not remain silent as two of our members, Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift, are singled out and personally attacked by …

Gully Boy fame Ankur Tewari: ‘Musicians are getting lonelier today’

Gully Boy fame Ankur Tewari: ‘Musicians are getting lonelier today’

Loneliness can sometimes lead to great works of art. But music and loneliness don’t go together, believes Ankur Tewari. “I feel musicians are getting lonelier because they are only interacting with their computers, and working in silence,” laments the composer and singer. Bringing musicians together was one of the ideas that led to the creation of City Sessions, his first independent album under Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Tiger Baby Records. The album, which released on May 9, features six original tracks by independent artistes Neel Adhikari, Pushan Kripalani (Slight Diversion), and Arijit Datta (Airport). For Tewari, City Sessions was a means to go back to how music used to be originally created. Think a bunch of people jamming together, each bringing their individuality and skill to the table. “The charm of why we started making music together is getting lost. So, we took the less beaten path of getting singer-songwriters, musicians, film technicians, and music producers together in a room and saying, ‘Now let’s make a song together’. We recorded it the old-school way …

Watch: Grammy-winning musician’s free speech question catches White House press secretary off guard | World News

In an unexpected twist at a routine White House press briefing, Grammy-winning musician Winston Marshall stunned reporters — and visibly caught press secretary Karoline Leavitt off guard — by suggesting that a future Trump administration consider granting asylum to UK citizens allegedly facing jail time for exercising free speech. Marshall, once the banjoist for British folk-rock band Mumford & Sons, directly addressed Leavitt during the Monday briefing, claiming that citizens in the United Kingdom were being subjected to “extensive prison sentences for tweets, social media posts and general free speech issues.” He pressed further: “Would the Trump administration consider asylum for British citizens in such a situation?” Now a political commentator and host of ‘The Winston Marshall Show’, the musician-turned-podcaster appeared to be referencing rising concerns among UK conservatives and free-speech advocates about growing censorship and what they see as the criminalisation of online expression. Story continues below this ad The moment left Leavitt momentarily speechless. After a pause, she responded: “I have not heard that proposed to the president nor have I spoken to …

Ed Sheeran says Indian musicians have their ‘own wave’, calls western-pop music ‘stagnant’ as he talks about Azizam’s desi connection | Music News

Singer Ed Sheeran was recently included in the list of the 100 most influential people by TIME magazine and in a chat with the publication, he shared stories of how he started his career with wedding parties, inspiration from Elton John and Eminem, and spoke about the Indian connection of his album ‘Play’. Ed recently came out with a new single titled ‘Azizam’ from his upcoming studio album ‘Play’. Among the many versions of the song released on YouTube and other streaming platforms, Sheeran released a looper version of the song, in which he performed on an Old Delhi rooftop. He was inspired to make the track after meeting with Swedish-Iranian producer Ilya Salmanzadeh and finished the recording of the song in Goa while calling the experience liberating, “In Western pop music, it can get quite stagnant and same-y and trend-following. Whereas in India, I found that it was just their own wave, and it just is rather than trying to fit in things.” READ MORE: Jonita Gandhi on opening for Ed Sheeran and Dua …
