Bombay High Court rules in favour of musicians as it upholds 2012 Copyright Act

It’s been a long-awaited win for music composers and lyricists in India who, despite the existence of the Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012, had to fight for royalties for their work. Celebrating indie musicians

Music is meant to set you free, but independent musicians in India often struggle due to lack of recognition. While film music is considered as the only means to melody, the country brims with many independent artistes, offering an alternate voice. With the intent to celebrate indie music and its creators, Radio City is set to host the seventh edition of Freedom Awards, also India’s first independent music awards.  The jury includes Atul Churamani, managing director of Turnkey Musik and Publishing, Vijay Basrur, founder of Ok Listen, Aishwarya Natarajan, founder Indianuance and music journalist Anurag Tagat. They will shortlist the nominees from the submitted entries in categories like Best Music Video, Best Young Artist, Best Indie Collaboration of the Year, and Best Folk Fusion Artist. The submissions close on March 9.    Source link

Confessing that he’s in a euphoric state of mind, Sen tells us why he felt it was the right time to release this track. “Somehow, all our albums at the time were performing so well, I couldn’t find the right spot for Kesariya Baalma. Every song has a right time to be out in the open. The entire song completed its journey in 17 years — jis cheez ke liye wo song likha gaya tha, wo cheez khatam ho gayi,” he shares. Asked if the song would have relevance in today’s times and connect with the youth, Sen sounds sure and says, “It was re-recorded with slightly modern sounds keeping the soul intact. At this time, all the old songs are being remixed and everyone is listening to them. There must be a reason. No one is making melody …
