Top 6 Kpop MVs: It’s a MOOD!

Whew! This week’s new releases are giving me a serious case of whiplash! Covering the spectrum from light-hearted and fun to dark and angsty, it’s a wild ride, but I’m loving each and every minute. Ready to embark on this roller coaster with me?! Let’s dive in!! Seventeen – ‘Maestro’ Seventeen is back with a much anticipated compilation album (17 Is Right Here) and the title track carries forward their previous albums’ theme, focusing on all aspects of music. ’Maestro’ is a grand journey that plays with a variety of beats and tempos — I’m loving the bridge and dance break sections most!! D.O. (EXO) – ‘Popcorn’ With his stoic personality and beautiful vocals, I can’t help but adore D.O. — even more so after this new pre-album single!! No, this isn’t an ode to his favorite snack, but a sweet song describing how his heart flutters and beats for the one he loves! Could he possibly be any cuter?! I think not!!! Solar (Mamamoo) – ‘But I’ It’s been two years since Solar’s last …

Top 6 Kpop MVs: Running to the Finish Line

We are down to the last five weeks of school here (how has this year passed by SO FAST already?!), and juggling all the end of year activities is setting my head spinning! The new music this week seems to match my mood–frantic and intense!! Thankfully there are a couple relaxed songs as well, to balance things out and help me catch my breath. This is the perfect mix to keeping running with your busy schedule — ready to hit play?? BOYNEXTDOOR – ‘Earth, Wind & Fire’ BOYNEXTDOOR cranks up the intensity with this title track from their newest album drop! I’m especially enjoying the rapid-fire rap runs and the energetic chorus! Producer Zico is doing a great job with this team’s music styling — it’s fresh and fun!! Kim WooJin – ‘I Like The Way’ We are getting an all new side of Kim WooJin in this dark and powerful comeback song. I like the way he smoothly shifts between his chest and head voice! Paired with the strong bass backbeat of the music, …

Top 5 Kpop MVs: Rockin’ with the Bands

This past week saw kids converging on my house, bringing a guitar, a bass, and amps, to join my son (on drums) and practice their rock band beats. While my neighbors might not be thrilled, I am absolutely ecstatic seeing another generation so passionate about music! It’s with that same enthusiasm that I want to share these recently released K-band tracks! Are you ready to rock?!  Peppertones – ‘Riders’ Fellow computer science students turned bandmates, the Peppertones are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year! Maybe that’s why this upbeat rock song is giving some delightful throwback feels. It’s a slow build, but by the end just know you WILL be up and dancing along!! ONEWE – ‘Beautiful Ashes’ ONEWE IS BACK!!! I hadn’t realized how much I missed Yonghoon’s vocals. He and bandmate Kanghyun have returned from their military service and we are blessed to have the whole band together once again for a new album! This beautiful, yet heartbreaking, rock-ballad is the perfect comeback track!! Rolling Quartz – ‘Stand Up’ Girl bands rock!! And …

Top 6 Kpop MVs: Captivating Comebacks

The boys are all bringing new music faster than I can add it to my playlist! It’s a great mix of vibes this week — broken hearts, growing pains, and dancing for days. Come join me on this journey as we run through new releases from 2nd generation Kpop veterans to rookies bursting with talent!   Super Junior D&E – ‘Rose’ One of SuJu’s more recognizable unit groups, Donghae and Eunhyuk, are back with a new EP! This B-side might be playing out a sad story, but I love the way their vocals intertwine and balance each as the song unfolds. Plus the desert scenery in the MV is an unexpected, yet fitting, change of pace from the typical SK outdoor shoots! Pagaehun (& Kkanbyeongz) – ‘Play with Me’ I just recently introduced y’all to this rookie solo artist and he’s already back with another fun single! Pagaehun pairs his charming vocal talents with the street dance team, Kkanbyeongz, to create this energetic MV — but it’s the cute Do-Re-Mi chorus that really sold me …

Top 5 Kpop MVs: Digging Deeper

As I perused my holding queue of new music today, these non-mainstream releases all caught my attention. I love digging deeper and shining a light on songs that would otherwise fly under the radar. The MVs might not be flashy, but each one of these tracks is captivating in their own way. Ready to see what you’re missing?!  B.I – ‘Wish You Were Here’ I can always count on B.I to deliver a solid song, and his recent Japanese album drop does not disappoint! ‘Wish You Were Here’ is an easy-going pop ballad, with the focus on his distinctive vocals. If you love this song, check out the rest of the album here!  Nam DongHyun – ‘Love Bugatee’ Formerly known by his stage name Boyhood, Nam DongHyun is now releasing new tracks as himself. From the opening notes of this rock ballad, I fell hard for his deep vocal tone. This song was an immediate playlist add for me! I also LOVED this fantastic album!  1000° (천도) – ‘Like Always’ A new singer-songwriter to the …

Top 5 Kpop MVs: Dynamic Duets

A favorite Korean duet cover unexpectedly popped up on my feed again this week and I knew it was a sign. I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to shine the spotlight on these five amazing duos! What could be better than famous international artists pairing up with equally stellar Korean music stars?! Are you curious? Join me after the jump!!  Christopher X ChunHa – ‘When I Get Old’ Danish singer Christopher (known for his hit single ‘Bad’) teams up with ChungHa for this collaborative single. It’s a great juxtaposition of vocals, with ChungHa bringing the husky low tones and Christopher hitting those high notes!  Peder Elias X Cha EunWoo – ‘Bonfire’ Norwegian singer Peder Elias has paired up with several Korean artists, but this duet with Cha Eun Woo is my favorite! They have sweet harmonies and I love the simple guitar accompaniment. Stick around after the song for a cute behind-the-scenes interaction between the two singers as well! Lauv X Minnie – ‘All 4 Nothing’ This special stage feels like a slow walk …

Top 9 Kpop MVs: Spring Break Beats

I think we can all agree — spring break is not a break for moms! Downtime has been a sporadic luxury this week, which means I’m sneaking in my Kpop streaming when I can. There has been no shortage of new music to keep me entertained, but it’s a blessing and curse! Great songs, yet not enough time in the day to enjoy them all!! Come check out the recent releases that were all instant additions to my playlist!! DAY6 – ‘Welcome to the Show’ I adore DAY6 and was SUPER excited when I found out they had released new music!  This title track gives anthem vibes and is a total bop that had me dancing and singing along! And as a fun bonus for my fellow Kdrama fans, Yoo SeungHo is featured as the leading character in the MV storyline — SO cute!!  SEVENUS – ‘Want You Back’ With a name like SEVENUS, I was expecting a whole team of members, but this rookie group is only two singers strong. Great vocals and visuals, …

Top 6 Kpop MVs: Keeping Korean Trot Contemporary

When iKon member Song dropped a new solo album, I was super surprised to find his title track was a trot song!! Yet it was just the nudge I needed to share another collection of Korean trot music. This style of song is not only an integral part of Korean culture, but a really unique and engaging genre of music! So come dive in and check out my recent finds!! BTF4 – ‘Nice Man’ Imagine if a Kpop boy band covered a trot song. . . . This is the vibe ‘Nice Man’ gives and I am loving it!!! As regular members of the TV trot series, The Burning Roses, these four talented solo artists (Min SooHyun, Kim JungYeon, Park MinSu, GongHoon) have come together as the group BTF4. And their debut pop-trot single is so catchy and fun to watch!  Kim NaHee – ‘흔들지마요’ Actress and singer Kim NaHee is delightful in this newly released trot track! I was immediately taken with the upbeat tempo and enjoyed the retro-styling of the MV. I just couldn’t …
