The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has projected the priority sector credit potential of ₹4.88 lakh crore for 2026-27 in Rajasthan. The State Focus Paper (SFP), revealing the district-wise realistic potential in both physical and financial terms, was launched in Jaipur on Friday (February 13, 2026). GI tag sought for Thoothukudi salt, Authoor Poovan banana and Villiseri lemon with NABARD support

The producers of Thoothukudi salt, Villiseri lemon and Authoor Poovan banana have sought Geographical Indication (GI) tag, aiming to secure legal recognition for these products and enhance their market visibility. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Chennai along with NABARD-MABIF (Madurai Agribusiness Incubation Forum) were the facilitators for these three applications. The application for securing tag for salt was filed by Thoothukudi Uppu Urapathiyalargal Sangam. Salt, in this particular region, is produced through the solar evaporation method, in which seawater or sub-soil brine is channelled into large salt pans and allowed to evaporate under intense sunlight. This natural process produces large, white, crystalline salt known for its purity and quality. Thoothukudi accounts for nearly 30% of India’s total salt production, with around 25,000–30,000 acres of salt pans spread across villages such as Vepalodai, Tharuvaikulam, Muttayapuram, and Ottapidaram. Both edible salt and industrial-grade salt are manufactured here and supplied to households, chemical industries, leather processing units, textile dyeing units, and pharmaceutical companies. Raghunathan Despite recent natural disasters, Tamil Nadu continues to demonstrate strong resilience with a compounded annual growth rate of 11-12 percent over the past decade, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu said in Chennai on Wednesday (February 5, 2025). After releasing the State Focus Paper 2025-26 of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) at the State Credit Seminar, he said Tamil Nadu had allocated ₹29,730 crore to agriculture and allied sectors in the 2024-25 Budget. “Agriculture remains vital to our country, yet challenges persist. The projected credit potential for the priority sectors of the district for 2023-24 is about 8% more than the previous year’s estimated credit flow potential and is about 15.67% higher than the current year’s Annual Credit Plan (ACP) target. The PLP will be the reference for the preparation of the ACP by Indian Bank, the lead bank of the district, for determining sector-wise lending priorities. District Collector D. Mohan recently released the PLP at a meeting. The Collector, while appreciating the support rendered by the banks, also advised them to strive to achieve the targets fixed by the lead bank against the ground-level credit potential estimated in the PLP. NABARD Officers’ Association members observe strike over wage anomalies

Perturbed over alleged anomalies in the wage revision by the Central government, the members of NABARD Officers’ Association (NBOA) observed a day-long strike on Friday, in Chandigarh. Ravinder Singh, secretary of the Association said that the protest was against the anomalies in the wage revision created by an order issued by the Department of Financial Services (DFS), the Ministry of Finance (Government of India). “We were also supported by the retired staff since the wage revision holds implications for the future— for the service as well as retired staff. The officers of NABARD had been on agitation ever since the DFS order was issued on September 14, 2022 followed by the administrative circular on September 21, 2022, to implement the order. After many representations and rounds of dialogues with the officials of DFS over the last two months, there has been no resolution, hence we were left with no other choice but to go on strike,” said Mr. Singh.
