Heatwave Alert: Delhi Records Season’s Hottest Day, Najafgarh Sizzles at 47.4°C

A brutal heatwave hit swathes of northwest India on Friday, with the maximum temperature rising to a scorching 47.4 degrees Celsius in southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh. This has been recorded to be the highest in the country so far this season. The mercury has crossed 45 degrees Celsius at 19 places in Rajasthan, 18 in Haryana, eight in Delhi and two in Punjab. On Friday, maximum temperatures surged to 47.4 degrees Celsius in Najafgarh and 47.1 in Haryana’s Sirsa. As per the weather office’s data till 7:30 pm, Najafgarh was the warmest place in the country. Before this, Kalaikunda in the Gangetic West Bengal region had recorded a high of 47.2 degrees Celsius on April 30. During the next five days, conditions are expected to become worse as the severe heat wave is likely to continue over the northwest Indian plains. Researchers at Climate Central, a US-based group of climate scientists, said 543 million (54.3 crore) people in India will experience at least one day of extreme heat during this period. Delhi: Two men shot dead inside salon in Najafgarh

Two men were shot dead inside a salon in southwest Delhi`s Najafgarh area, police said on Friday. Sonu and Ashish, in their early 30`s, were shot multiple times in front of other customers and salon workers, they said. A purported CCTV footage of the incident also surfaced on social media where one of the victims could be seen pleading to the attackers. He was shot in the head from a point blank rage. Police said while Sonu was shot in the head once, Ashish received three bullet injuries in his head and one in his chest. Prima facie, personal enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the attack but the possibility of gangwar cannot be ruled out, a police officer said. The two attackers fled after the incident, police said. Soon after the incident, panic was gripped in the area and a PCR call was made.
