Namdhari brush past Inter Kashi; Shillong Lajong thumps Sporting Club Bengaluru

Namdhari FC rose to second place in the 2024-25 I-League after beating Inter Kashi 2-0 at the Namdhari Stadium in Sri Bhaini Sahib on Monday. The hosts, who played with ten men for almost the entirety of the second half, scored once in each period via Bhupinder Singh and Francis Addo. It was the fourth straight clean sheet for Namdhari, and the second time they won a game after receiving a red card. Harpreet Singh’s team are now level on 14 points with Inter Kashi, but ahead on head-to-head. Inter Kashi’s second defeat of the campaign meant that Churchill Brothers regained top spot in the league with 16 points. Inter Kashi struggled to get any sort of a foothold in the opening stages of the match and Namdhari took advantage with a 13th-minute opening goal. Gokulam Kerala FC started their year with a massive win in an away game against Delhi FC while Namdhari edged out the table toppers Churchill Brothers with a narrow 1-goal margin on Wednesday. Namdhari edges out the leaders Churchill Brothers Namdhari FC shocked league leaders Churchill Brothers beating them 1-0 in the I-League 2024-25 at the Raia Ground. The loss was only Churchill Brothers’ second of the season and a blow to their chance at extending the gap at the top of the table. While Churchill is still at the top after seven rounds with 13 points, Namdhari, who didn’t start the season too brightly, has moved to third place with 11 points from seven matches. Title contenders Real Kashmir FC’s first match away from home in the I-League 2024-25 season ended in disappointment as they went down to hosts Namdhari FC by a solitary goal at the Namdhari Stadium on Sunday. While Namdhari now has seven points after Round Five and earned their second consecutive win, Real Kashmir has eight. The men from Srinagar suffered their first defeat. Namdhari have now moved to fifth place in the points table and are breathing down Real Kashmir’s neck, who are currently placed fourth. Namdhari’s Brazilian striker Cledson Dasilva Degol scored the only goal of the match in the 15th minute. Hosts Shillong Lajong FC routed Rajasthan United FC 8-0 in Round 4 of the I-League 2024-25 at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on Sunday. Having failed to win any of their first three matches, Lajong looked like a team in a hurry and opened the scoring in the third minute through Figo Syndai and added two more via their Brazilian duo Douglas Tardin (17’) and Daniel Goncalves (45+3’) to make it 3-0 at half time. There was no respite for Rajasthan United in the second half as their rampaging rivals scored five more goals in 21 minutes with Damaitphang Lyngdoh (49’), Tardin (51’), Brazilian Marcos Rudwere (61’), Spanish recruit Imanol Arana Sadaba (66’, penalty) and Hardy Nongbri (87’) adding to their misery. Shillong Lajong overturned a two-goal deficit in a tempestuous game to grab a point against Churchill Brothers in the I-League 2024-25 at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on Saturday. In the evening’s second match, Rajasthan United FC staged a 3-1 comeback victory over hosts Namdhari FC at the Namdhari Stadium in Sri Bhaini Sahib. Churchill seized control of the game early, their midfield outpacing, outthinking and outworking the hosts. In the 14th minute, they took a deserved lead via Wayde Lekay. Played through via Colombian Sebastian Gutierrez’s lobbed ball, the South African outmuscled defender Aman Ahlawat before lobbing the goalkeeper to give Churchill the lead. Seven minutes later they had doubled it. Lekay again was the scorer, his quick thinking when offside outwitting Lajong’s high line defence who were looking for the flag. Hosts Namdhari started the game on the front foot, dictating the pace and creating the first notable chance. In the 12th minute, Manvir Singh was all set to flick a cross from the right, but Delhi FC goalkeeper, Lalmuansanga, came up with a crucial save. Shortly after this, Namdhari’s Brazilian recruit Vicente Mercedes unleashed a shot from the middle of the box, but it was blocked by Delhi’s resolute defence. The rebound fell to Vicente’s fellow Brazilian, Cledson Dasilva Degol, who fired wide of the target. They were leading 2-1 at the half time following the goal of Akashdeep Singh, Harmanpreeth Singh. This was Neroca’s fifth consecutive defeat in the season. Both Namdhari FC and NEROCA FC are struggling in the ongoing league and languishing at 11th and 12th positions, respectively. While the win on Wednesday gave Namdhari a sense of relief, it didn’t make their position any more comfortable in the league table. After the win over NEROCA, the home side are still in the 11th position, though their points tally has gone up to 12 from 13 matches.
