Nandan Nilekani to lead exam reforms: Amid Gen-Z ire, Modi taps all-season technocrat

Nandan Nilekani’s appointment on Sunday to head the Narendra Modi government’s new exam-reform task force follows a pattern that goes back around two decades. Successive governments, of different parties, have brought the technocrat back for policy work. In that sense, it’s only the latest turn in a career that has now spanned both the Congress and BJP. (Bloomberg Photo) Modi’s latest move comes as the largely GenZ-driven protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) forced major decisions over the past week. Was on exam-related panel in past Exam reforms are not new territory altogether for Nilekani. Around eight years ago, the Supreme Court constituted a seven-member panel, chaired by retired judge GS Singhvi, that included Nilekani among others, to investigate irregularities in the Staff Selection Commission’s CGL/CHSL 2017 exam. The panel did submit a report, which the court cited in 2020 to conclude there wasn’t enough evidence the entire exam process …

Nandan Yadav reacts to Nepal’s 4-run loss to England at the 2026 T20 World Cup: ‘Mix of pride and regret’ | Cricket News

Nepal may have walked off the field without the points, but their narrow defeat by four runs to England at the T20 World Cup in Mumbai on Sunday felt like a statement of intent rather than a setback. Chasing 185 runs for victory, Nepal came agonisingly close to pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, falling short in the final moments despite needing just a handful of runs in the closing deliveries. The result echoed a familiar theme for the associate side – pride in competing toe-to-toe with elite opposition, tempered by the regret of failing to cross the line. “I think it’s both. There is regret because we came very close and couldn’t get over the line, but at the same time, there is pride because we are competing against very strong teams like England. Being that close shows we are improving, so overall it’s a mix of pride and regret,” pacer Nandan Yadav said in the post-match press conference on Sunday. Nepal’s chase began with intent, as Kushal Bhurtel got …

Aadhaar Creator Nandan Nilekani Predicts India’s Next ‘UPI-Style’ Revolution

Infosys co-founder and Aadhaar creator, Nandan Nilekani, believes that the energy sector in India will witness the next revolution, akin to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) which has transformed the financial landscape of the country. Mr Nilekani was addressing a crowd of entrepreneurs when he highlighted the widespread implementation of solar panels for homes to enable the public to become both producers and consumers of energy. “We’re used to buying and storing energy in small amounts, when you are buying LPG cylinder, you’re buying packetised energy. But electricty we always thought of something coming from the grid. Or we buy a generator because we don’t get electricity or burn some oil,” said Mr Nilekani. “Every home will be an energy producer because they have rooftop solar. Every home will be an energy store because they have an EV battery. So, every home is a producer of energy, seller of energy, and buyer of energy. So, like UPI, you will now be able to buy and sell energy,” he added. Mr Nilekani said the decentralisation of …
