‘Just waiting for evidence’: Ram Madhvani, former NASA scientist unpack science of alien contact in Spielberg’s films

What happens when an acclaimed filmmaker and a space engineer get together to talk about extraterrestrial life, cinema, and their shared admiration for Steven Spielberg? The rather niche question was answered by the Society of Intellectuals this past week as they organised a panel discussion for Spielberg’s new film Disclosure Day, headlined by National Award-winning filmmaker Ram Madhvani and former NASA engineer Nimisha Mittal. Nimisha Mittal and Ram Madhvani at the event in Mumbai. The discussion, cheesily subtitled ‘All will be disclosed’, was held in a cosy Mumbai bar, and ranged from the search for extraterrestrial life by scientists to how Spielberg has depicted that in his work spanning five decades. ‘We are just waiting for evidence’ Nimisha Mittal worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for over 15 years, including the Mars rovers and the Cassini Space Orbiter. She spoke about how seriously the scientific community views the search for alien life. “You don’t always hear about it, but everyone in the scientific community is always hopeful of a connection. We are just waiting for …

NASA unveils Artemis III astronauts to test technology for future moon landing | World News

2 min readJun 9, 2026 11:15 PM IST NASA on Tuesday revealed the crew for its Artemis III mission, the next step in the space agency’s plan to eventually land astronauts on the moon. The announcement came two months after Artemis II’s record-breaking trip around the moon that surpassed the distance record of Apollo 13. NASA’s Randy Bresnik, Frank Rubio, Andre Douglas and the European Space Agency’s Luca Parmitano won’t fly to the moon or land on the surface. Instead, they’ll orbit Earth while practicing docking their Orion capsule with two lunar landers. “To the Artemis III crew, we wish you Godspeed on the journey ahead,” said NASA administrator Jared Isaacman. Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin are racing to deliver the lunar landers. The two-week demo is targeted for 2027. Blue Origin suffered a recent setback when its massive rocket exploded during an engine-firing test on the launch pad in Florida, shaking nearby homes and illuminating the sky with an orange fireball. NASA’s Jeremy Parsons said the setback is a learning opportunity …

Nasa releases ‘Earthset’ photo by Artemis II crew, 57 years after iconic ‘Earthrise’ shot

Nasa on Tuesday released a historic image of Earth dipping below the lunar horizon, more than 57 years after an iconic “Earthrise” image was captured by an Apollo 8 astronaut. This handout picture released on April 7, 2026, by NASA shows Earth drawing closer to passing behind the Moon, about six minutes before “Earthset,” as seen from the Orion spacecraft on April 6, 2026. The Artemis II astronauts wrapped up their lunar flyby as they continue their journey back to Earth on Tuesday, bringing with them rich celestial observations including little-known lunar craters, a solar eclipse and meteor strikes that scientists hope will open doors. NASA Crew’s ‘Amaze Amaze Amaze’ Nod to Project Hail Mary Goes Viral

3 min readNew DelhiApr 7, 2026 12:20 PM IST Two very different space stories are grabbing global attention right now—one unfolding in reality, the other on screen. On one hand, Nasa is flying Artemis II, its first crewed journey toward the Moon in over five decades. On the other hand, fans are buzzing about Project Hail Mary, the Ryan Gosling-led film based on Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. In a moment that delighted space enthusiasts, these two worlds unexpectedly collided. During Nasa’s live broadcast of Artemis II’s lunar flyby, Mission Control slipped in a subtle nod to the sci-fi story. Commander Reid Wiseman was describing a breathtaking view from space when the team on Earth responded with a familiar line: “Amaze! Amaze! Amaze!,” a direct reference to Rocky, the beloved alien character from the novel and film. The timing made it even more special. The crew had already watched Project Hail Mary before launch, making the callback feel like an inside joke shared across space and Earth. Wiseman, meanwhile, painted a vivid picture of …

NASA launches historic crewed Moon mission after 50 years

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Wednesday announced the successful separation of the Orion spacecraft from the upper stage of the rocket as part of the Artemis II mission and stated that the “proximity operations” test is currently underway. Separation of the Orion took place after the Artemis crew had officially embarked on a “historic 10-day mission around the Moon”, a journey that may see them travel “further from Earth than anyone has ever been before. Artemis II countdown delayed? What NASA said about latest issues facing the moon mission

Artemis II launch update: Just about an hour before Artemis II’s launch, NASA issued a statement about an issue with communication to the flight termination system. Derrol Nail, a NASA commentator who is also in the control room, meanwhile added that engineers are trying to address an issue with the Space Launch System rocket’s flight termination system. In case, they are not able to solve the problem, the launch abort system will lift the Orion capsule and the astronauts to safety. The flight termination system would then destroy the rocket. Who Is India’s Missile Woman? The Inspiring Journey Of Tessy Thomas And Her Agni Programme

Who Is India’s Missile Woman? The Inspiring Journey Of Tessy Thomas And Her Agni Programme

On the quiet coast of Kerala, a young girl would often watch rockets soar into the sky. The roar of each launch stirred her mind with curiosity and wonder. She stood still for long moments, gazing at the trails of smoke above the sea, unaware that those fleeting sights were planting seeds of ambition. Years later, that same girl would emerge as a leading scientist in India’s defence programme. The world would come to know her as the “Missile Woman of India,” but it all began with simple curiosity. Tessy Thomas was born in April 1963 in Alappuzha, a coastal town in Kerala. Her father ran a small business, and education was very important in their home. The family lived not far from the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS) in Thiruvananthapuram. Watching rockets launch from the nearby facility fascinated her deeply. She often wondered how machines could travel so far into the sky. Those early sights quietly shaped her interest in science and technology. Life brought difficulties when Tessy Thomas was still a child. …
