PCB tightens grip post Naseem Shah controversy, warns centrally contracted players

Modern cricket isn’t just about what happens on the field anymore. Players today carry their identity off it as well, especially in the age of social media. And sometimes, one wrong move online can create as much noise as anything in a match. The Pakistan Cricket Board made that clear recently. Naseem Shah was fined PKR 20 million by PCB (AFP) Naseem Shah, the 23-year-old fast bowler, found himself at the centre of a controversy after a post from his account appeared to take a dig at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, asking, “Why is she being treated like a queen at Lord’s?” He later claimed that his account had been hacked, but by then, the conversation had already gathered momentum. The PCB didn’t take long to respond. A PKR 20 million fine and a show-cause notice followed, sending a strong signal that the board is not willing to overlook such issues. It also made one thing clear: players, along with those managing their social media accounts, will be held responsible if guidelines are breached. …

Naseem Shah fined eight months salary by Pakistan Cricket Board for sarcastic tweets | Cricket News

3 min readMar 30, 2026 09:43 PM IST The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) imposed a heavy fine of 20 million Pakistani rupees (approx 72000 USD or 67 lakhs INR) on pacer Naseem Shah for posting sarcastic tweets in reply to a PCB social media post of Punjab’s chief minister Maryam Nawaz. PCB deemed the tweet, which was quickly deleted, as breach of the clauses of his central contract. The PCB announced that the disciplinary committee of the Board had found Naseem guilty of breaching clauses of his contract and behaving irresponsibly while posting tweets on his social media account. Naseem was issued a show-cause notice on March 27 after Naseem Shah’s official X account quote-tweeted the post of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz at Gaddafi Stadium from the PCB media account, saying “Why is she treated like the Queen at Lord’s?” Minutes later, Naseem’s post was taken down and replaced with another post saying his account had been hacked, and that it had been recovered by him. Maryam visited the Gaddafi Stadium as the chief guest …

“I still feel pressure meeting Dhoni” — Reveals Why Rinku Singh calls him ‘Jaani’ and speaks about Afghan fan suicides after Pakistan loss

4 min readMar 23, 2026 07:59 PM IST Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz says MS Dhoni is the reason he became a cricketer — and that he still gets nervous when he meets the Chennai Super Kings legend. Gurbaz also spoke about the human cost of Afghanistan’s 2022 Asia Cup defeat to Pakistan, saying fans took their own lives after the loss. “My idol since childhood has been MS Dhoni,” he said in an interview with Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel. “I started cricket because of Dhoni. I became a wicketkeeper because of Dhoni.” Even after years of playing alongside the world’s best, Gurbaz said Dhoni still has a unique effect on him. “With every player in the world I have met, I feel nothing. But when I am talking to MS Dhoni — I still feel pressure. He is a very good person. Every time, he calls me himself: come, let’s talk.” His dream, he added, is to one day play for Chennai Super Kings. “Always my dream team — only because of him. I started …

Sri Lanka end Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign as Farhan-Fakhar stand goes in vain

Sri Lanka end Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign as Farhan-Fakhar stand goes in vain

5 min readUpdated: Feb 28, 2026 11:19 PM IST Many times on Saturday night, hope flickered for Pakistan. It was burning bright when Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman, through their record 176-run opening stand, powered them to 212/8, setting the stage for a dramatic chase. If Pakistan restricted a struggling Sri Lanka to 147 or below, a place in the semi-finals was theirs. Every time Abrar Ahmed landed blows, Pakistan remained on the edge of their seats, before Pavan Rathnayake and Dasun Shanaka gave New Zealand a lifeline while going down. Sri Lanka, already out of the T20 World Cup, took Pakistan with them — which means the knockouts will now be held entirely in India. For Pakistan, this marks another ICC event where they have failed to make the knockouts. With Sri Lanka deciding to bowl first, everything came down to whether Pakistan’s attack could close out the game in batting-friendly conditions. Having played all their fixtures so far on slow, spin-friendly surfaces, Pakistan got a belter for a match where they had to …

NZ vs PAK 2nd ODI: Ben Sears takes 5 wickets as New Zealand defeat Pakistan by 84 runs, take unassailable 2-0 lead | Cricket News

Pakistan’s woes in the ODI format continued on Tuesday when the Mohammad Rizwan-captained side fell to New Zealand by 84 runs in the second ODI match, leading to the hosts taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. This was the Men in Green’s 4th straight ODI loss since the Champions Trophy where they were eliminated after losing back to back matches against New Zealand and India. The Kiwis’ Ben Sears took 5 wickets to break the back of Pakistan’s batting lineup with only Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah putting up some sort of resistance with 73 runs and 51 runs respectively. The duo, who both scored their maiden ODI half centuries, put on a 60-run partnership for the 9th wicket before Pakistan were bundled out in 41.2 overs. Rizwan and Babar Azam both failed to fire while Pakistan’s top order suffered a familiar collapse with the first 5 batters scoring in single digits. If you look at the whole Pakistan batting lineup, 8 batters scored in single digits which paints a not …

‘They say Pakistan seamers are the best and I’m like no’: Moeen Ali questions hype around Naseem-Shaheen-Haris trio | Cricket News

‘They say Pakistan seamers are the best and I’m like no’: Moeen Ali questions hype around Naseem-Shaheen-Haris trio | Cricket News

Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali questioned the hype over the Pakistan seam trio of Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf and said they do not rank among the best bowling attacks in the current international circuit. While Pakistan’s pace spearheads had their moments during the 2022 T20 World Cup where they finished runners-up behind an English side that included Ali, the pace trio have not quite reached the same heights ever since. Shah, Afridi and Rauf have now been part of three successive ICC white-ball events where Pakistan suffered group-stage exits. The trio also had a forgettable campaign recently at home as Pakistan hosted the ICC Champions Trophy, the first global event in the country since 1996. Ali said he could not understand the perception about Pakistan producing world-class pacers and said that the Shaheen-Naseem-Rauf trio rated only as a decent bowling attack in the international bracket. ‘We are not able to defeat D teams who come to our country playing with our full teams’: Kamran Akmal slams Pakistan cricket unit | Cricket News

Pakistan has hosted an ICC event after 29 years. However, the side could not deliver the performance and was eliminated from the tournament just after playing a couple of games. Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal would lambast the Pakistan side for their performances through the tournament and would say they could not defeat even the D teams with their full strength. “We are not able to defeat D teams who come to our country playing with our full teams. You are good and get respect only when your team plays well and wins,” Akmal said on his YouTube channel. The tournament was held in hybrid model due to political tensions between India and Pakistan hence India played all their games in Dubai. The Men in Blue reaching the final meant that the final would be held in Dubai however, after India winning the trophy there was no offical representation from Pakistan cricket at the trophy presentation ceremony. Story continues below this ad “It was shameful in the ceremony. We are not capable of this because …

Why Javed Miandad, R Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara are impressed with Shubman Gill’s batting | Cricket News

Why Javed Miandad, R Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara are impressed with Shubman Gill’s batting | Cricket News

The wily old Javed Miandad was impressed. It’s a show from a year ago where Miandad asks upcoming cricketers from Pakistan to look and learn from Shubman Gill’s batting. And his wrists in particular. Miandad, whose street-cred is well established in India-Pakistan battles, gestures the wrist-break of Gill: he gestures how Gill powers the ball and gives it direction by snapping his wrists. On Sunday, another wily customer, the recently-retired R Ashwin, cued up two balls from Shubman Gill to talk about Gill’s hands, feet, and the smart brain. The first ball is when Gill moved down the track to lift Shaheen Afridi’s length delivery up and over the infield to the long-on boundary. Ashwin points to how close Gill’s hands are to his body, and how his feet get ready to move. It’s a shot replayed on YouTube shorts and in highlights packages, but Ashwin is more impressed with what followed. On paper, it’s just a flick for a single, that turns to two due to an overthrow, but it’s interesting to see why …

Wasim Akram on Pakistan bowling unit: ‘Your three premier bowlers have average close to 50. You are not going to win any game unfortunately’ | Cricket News

With hosts Pakistan losing its fourth match against India in an ICC event with the six-wicket loss against India in Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday, it was also Pakistan’s second loss in the tournament and almost shutting the door for the hosts for the tournament. With fast bowlers like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah only accounting for two wickets in the match, former Pakistan great Wasim Akram has lashed out the pace trio of Pakistan and said Pakistan cannot win any game with such kind of bowlers. “Are you talking about fast bowlers? Fast bowlers for which Pakistan is very famous for. That fast bowlers factories come in Pakistan and whatever comes to mind. I will tell you the stats. Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is our main bowler. He has bowled 47 overs conceding 341 runs taking eight wickets at an average of 43. I am not talking of batting but bowling. Then Haris Rauf. Two matches out of five matches he was injured (Probably he thought who will play five …

Champions Trophy | ‘Kuldeep has a miracle in his hands. He showed the world’ : Ashwin showers praise on Yadav | Cricket News

While the talk has been about Virat Kohli’s 51st ODI hundred during India’s six wicket win over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy match at Dubai on Sunday, left-arm wrist Kuldeep Yadav returned back to form in International cricket with a three-wicket haul. Yadav had made a comeback to international cricket after more than three months in January early this year post a sports hernia injury, a soft tissue injury that happens on an athlete’s groin area. With wickets of Slaman Ali Agha, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah in the match against Pakistan, the 30-year-old had his best wicket haul in his last four matches since injury and former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has backed the bowler for the comeback. “People should understand that a spinner is making a comeback after an injury. Sometimes in our country, we don’t give so much time to the bowlers. If the batsman fails after a comeback, we tell that he has just come after an injury. If you think it happens with Virat and he plays 2-3 games, …
