Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan has ordered a probe against National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) officials for failing to appear before the Delhi High Court last month to defend its June 22 order to blacklist a paper supplier for delaying textbook production, people familiar with the development said on Friday. The matter will next be heard on July 20. The minister’s intervention in the matter is part of the ministry’s “reinforcement of zero-tolerance approach towards administrative and legal lapses”, a Union education ministry spokesperson said. The national assessment centre under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), PARAKH, is conducting one-on-one, tablet-based assessments of Class 3 students under the Foundational Learning Study (FLS) 2026, covering key skills such as comprehension, oral reading fluency and basic mathematics, with data collection expected to conclude by May-June 2026, officials said. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has proposed a new evaluation model for class 12. The model suggests that classes 9, 10, and 11 performances should be included in class 12 board results, according to the newswire ANI reported, citing the NCERT report. The report titled ‘Establishing Equivalence across Education Boards’ proposing changes was released last month. This involves a progressive assessment approach for Classes 10 and 12 wherein the new framework divides the academic year into two terms. Class 12 board results should now include marks from Classes 9, 10, and 11, per the report’s recommendations. It further noted that the weightage of formative and summative marks will be adjusted progressively from class 9 to class 12, with more weightage to be given to summative assessment as the student enters higher grades. CBSE has released the class 10 and 12 syllabus for the academic year 2024-25 that is set to commence on April 1. Candidates appearing for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 or Class 12 Board Exam 2025 can download the syllabus for each subject by visiting the curriculum section at the official website, cbseacademic.nic.in. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the release of additional textbooks by SCERT (State Council for Educational Research and Training) on Wednesday, August 23, incorporating the topics that were recently deleted from the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) textbooks, reported ANI. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his government’s concern over the exclusion of chapters by NCERT under the pretext of rationalization for the 2023-24 academic year. A new committee formed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is set to shape the curriculum and textbooks for classes 3 to 12.  This 19-member committee, named the National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), will be led by MC Pant, the Chancellor of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA). Notable figures including Sudha Murthy, author and Infosys Foundation chair, singer Shankar Mahadevan, and economist Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, are part of this endeavour according to an internal note of NCERT as reported by HT. The primary goal of this committee is to align the curriculum with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE). Developed under the guidance of the K Kasturirangan-led steering committee as a part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation.
