The Delhi Police have busted an interstate investment fraud syndicate and arrested eight people following an intensive investigation that also revealed links with handlers operating from Cambodia, officials said on Sunday. On November 7, 2025, a 42-year-old woman from Vasant Kunj lodged a complaint stating that she had been cheated out of Rs 15.58 lakh. According to the complaint, she was contacted on WhatsApp by unknown persons claiming to provide expert guidance in stock trading and assuring guaranteed returns. Trusting these claims, she transferred the money in multiple transactions, only to later realise that she had been duped. A dedicated police team carried out detailed technical surveillance, money trail analysis, and digital forensics, which led to the identification of a network supplying mule bank accounts for routing cheated money. “The investigation revealed that the accused were operating across several states, including Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. Union home minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday said as many as 5,000 cyber commandos, a core group of highly trained police officers who instantly respond to and prevent cyber-attacks in the country, will be ready in the next five years. Amit Shah also dedicated a Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC) to the country. (PTI photo) Speaking at the first foundation day of the I4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre), Shah said, “We will have 5,000 cyber commandos in five years. These commandos will respond to cyber threats swiftly”. Terming cyber security as part of the national security, Shah said “country’s growth is not possible without ensuring cyber security.” The home minister also inaugurated a ‘suspect registry’, where details of criminals involved in cyber and online financial frauds will be stored at one place and can be accessed by the states, union territories, central investigation and intelligence agencies.
