Lucknow, A total of 173 villages in 13 districts have been affected by floods in Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Tuesday. 173 UP villages flood-hit; more than 4,000 people shifted to safer locations The flood situation is currently normal and under control, and district administrations have been kept fully active to shift flood-affected people to safer locations and provide them with food, medical care and essential relief material, he said. In a statement, the Office of State Relief Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod said, “So far, 173 villages in 13 districts have been affected by floods. These include Badaun, Bahraich, Ballia, Barabanki, Bijnor, Farrukhabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Gonda, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Muzaffarnagar, Sitapur and Unnao.” Around 13,058 hectares of area and 84,362 people have been affected. The Control Room of the Relief Commissioner’s Office is maintaining continuous contact with flood-affected districts to monitor the situation, while complaints and information received on the 1070 helpline are being acted upon promptly. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday recovered a body from the debris of a building that collapsed at a waste management facility in Pimpri Chinchwad near Pune, officials said. Nine people have been rescued so far as a multi-agency rescue operation continues at the site. The three-storey building, located near a waste-to-energy plant at Moshi, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon after a large mound of garbage crashed onto it. Several workers were trapped under the debris following the incident. Troops of the Indian Army’s Spear Head Division under the Spear Corps rescued 27 stranded civilians from flood-hit areas in Assam’s Dhemaji district on Monday as part of a coordinated humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation carried out alongside the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the civil administration, officials said.  The rescue operation was conducted at Arun Chapori village in Dhemaji district after incessant rainfall and a sudden rise in water levels inundated several villages, leaving residents stranded. According to the Army, personnel were swiftly mobilised following the emergency and worked under adverse weather and difficult terrain conditions to evacuate the trapped civilians to safer locations.
