A 22-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to undergraduate medical courses was found dead in Rajasthan’s Sikar on Monday, the second such case in the city within a month. The National Testing Agency (NTA) rescheduled the test for June 21 after cancelling NEET (Undergraduate) 2026 on May 12, nine days after 2.27 million students sat for the examination across 551 cities. The move came after central agencies confirmed that the question paper had been compromised. Questions were available on some phones as early as May 1, two days before the exam. It was the second time in two years that NEET-UG came under scrutiny, prompting the NTA to hand the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation. New Delhi: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has informed the Supreme Court of India that 95,913 additional candidates have become eligible for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2025 counselling after the qualifying percentile was reduced, cautioning that any interference at this stage would directly affect these candidates. NBEMS said that the number of qualified candidates increased from 1,28,116 under the earlier criteria to 2,24,029 under the revised criteria. (Representative photo) In an affidavit filed in response to petitions challenging the lowering of the NEET-PG cut-off, NBEMS said that the number of qualified candidates increased from 1,28,116 under the earlier criteria to 2,24,029 under the revised criteria. “It is ex-facie apparent that pursuant to the lowering of cut off 95,913 additional candidates have now become eligible to participate in the counselling for NEET PG 2025,” it submitted. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the test is for admission to undergraduate medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, and BHMS. In all, 72,507 candidates have registered for the test in Telangana, and it will be conducted from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in 190 examination centres across the State. Officials said candidates will be allowed into the centres starting 11 a.m., and no candidate will be allowed entry after 1.30 p.m. This is in view of the entry rules, which include extensive and compulsory frisking of candidates and scrutiny of their identification and admit cards. New Delhi: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has pulled up several coaching centres for flouting advertising norms and engaging in unfair trade practices, particularly those institutes that help students prepare for joint entrance examination (JEE) for undergraduate engineering programs and national eligibility cum entrance test (NEET) for undergraduate medical courses. Several prominent institutes have been found misusing student success stories after the recent declaration of entrance exam results, making exaggerated or unverifiable claims to attract new enrolments, the Union consumer affairs ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
