The inaugural edition of Shooting India League will feature only mixed-team format across disciplines and not individual events in a bid to make the event more audience-friendly, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) have said. NRAI is set to launch the league between 20th November 2025 and 2nd December 2025. The franchise-based league will have eight teams divided into two pools of four teams in the league stage, which will take place between 21st November and 26th November, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stages. “The idea is to make the sport of shooting more audience-friendly and broadcast-friendly. Currently, shooting is not broadcast-friendly. We plan to work out a way to capture more TV viewership,” Kalikesh Singh Deo, NRAI President, told The Indian Express. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) wants to restart its junior shooting programme, that has found talents like Manu Bhaker and Divyansh Singh Panwar NRAI president Kalikesh Singh Deo stressed on the need for a framework that facilitates the transition of talented juniors into the senior set-up. “A majority of our shooters have emerged from the junior programme. Several have come through Khelo India, which the government runs. We’ve proposed that the NRAI work with an ecosystem to support junior shooters transitioning to the senior team,” Deo said on Monday. “This ensures junior shooters are exposed to our high-performance team, foreign and national coaches, and national shooters.” The NRAI believes that allowing the juniors to compete with seniors would increase competition faced by established shooters and in a playing field where technique is largely level, the best in-form shooters would consistently compete against each other. “Combining the junior and senior teams creates a unified approach. Delhi High Court upholds Olympics selection policy of NRAI

Delhi High Court has upheld the 2024 Paris Olympic selection policy formulated by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Wednesday. The order was pronounced by the Court after the petition filed by a shooter for her non-inclusion was dismissed. Reacting to the developments, K. Sultan Singh, Secretary General, NRAI, said, “Our selection policy for the Olympic Games 2024 stands upheld being fair, reasonable and transparent. All the athletes have been given a fair chance. The policy is more inclusive for the shooters to qualify.” The trials followed the declared Paris Olympic schedule where the finals will happen the day after qualifications. The trial has a system of points where the shooters participate in four trials and the points are calculated from the trials to prepare a leaderboard and the top two at the end of trials will make it to the squad. 37 shooters line up for Rifle and Pistol Olympic Selection Trials

The 25M Pistol shooters will fire first as the inaugural Olympic Selection Trials (OSTs) 1&2 for Rifle and Pistol is all set to get underway at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range. The qualification rounds for both the women’s 25M Pistol and the men’s 25M rapid-fire pistol (RFP) take up the entire day beginning at 9.00 am with the women’s Precision Stage. Five shooters each have made the cut in each event, as they have in all the eight events. In the women’s sport pistol (25M) Manu Bhaker will take the favourites tag being the only Olympian in the field as well as having the advantage of having one of the two quotas in the event, which will give her a bump of two points in the final average score. Top shooters of the country have requested the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) for relaxation in criteria for Paris Olympic selection trials, so that they can take part in it. The shooters include Asian Games medalists and multiple international level medalists. Only five shooters in each category based on their national ranking and Qualification Ranking for the Olympic Games (QROG) points are eligible to appear for trials, as per the selection criteria of NRAI. Four trials are scheduled in Delhi and Bhopal to select the pistol and rifle contingent for the 2024 Olympic Games, with the winners booking their tickets to Paris. The first two Olympic Selection Trials (OSTs) will be held at the Karni Singh Range here from April 18-27, while the remaining two are scheduled in Bhopal from May 10-19.
