Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Vinod said, “In my village in Karnataka, casteism is still prevalent, even today. There are two areas in that village — one for the upper castes and one for the lower castes. The area where the Dalits live is separate from the village. Once, when I went to the village with my father, I was 12 years old and ate at a hotel, we had to wash our own plates and also pay for the food. Director Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound bowed out of the Oscar race at the nomination stage on Thursday. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese, often regarded as the greatest film directors of his generation, has joined Neeraj Ghaywan‘s second feature, Homebound, as an executive producer. Scorsese has been involved with the project since the scripting stage, and provided notes while it was being edited. Homebound has been selected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Ghaywan said on social media that he is still ‘in disbelief’ over the collaboration. Scorsese is known to champion voices from world cinema. With this, Ghaywan joins Chaitanya Tamhane in bringing on board a legendary mentor to support their deeply Indian project.
