Informing medical aspirants about the revised paper format for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2025, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released a notification on Saturday stating the new paper format will not have any Section B, reported the Hindustan Times. According to the notification, published in the Hindustan Times, the question paper pattern and the examination duration would revert to the pre-COVID format. The pre-COVID format didn’t have Section B. Also, the total duration of the exam will be 180 minutes. Detailing more, the NTA said that there will be a total of 180 mandatory questions, among which 45 questions each will be asked from Physics and Chemistry, while 90 questions will be from the Biology section. NEET UG 2025: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for Undergraduate courses in 2025 (NEET UG 2025) will be held in a single shift on a single day, in Pen and Paper mode (OMR-based). In November 2024, the Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan hinted that NEET-UG would become a computer-based test (CBT), shifting from the traditional paper-based format. However, now, the NTA has confirmed that the NEET UG 2025 exam will be conducted in pen and paper mode. “As decided by the National Medical Commission(NMC), the NEET-UG shall be conducted in Pen and paper mode (OMR based) in a single day and shift,” a senior National Testing Agency (NTA) official said, reported PTI. The proposal to switch NEET to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode is not new and has been discussed multiple times in the past. The National Medical Commission of India unveiled the syllabus for NEET-UG 2025 on Tuesday — covering the core subjects of physics, chemistry and biology. The Undergraduate Medical Education Board has also issued an advisory urging candidates to refer to the updated syllabus while preparing for the upcoming academic session. Meanwhile Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Tuesday that efforts were currently underway to “restructure” the National Testing Agency. The NTA will also stop conducting recruitment exams from next year — exclusively focusing on entrance tests for higher education institutions. The restructuring is based on recommendations from a high-level committee formed after the NEET-undergraduate exam paper leak. The NEET-UG exam is currently conducted offline — in pen and paper mode — with students solving multiple choice questions on an OMR sheet. Pradhan however indicated that deliberations were underway on whether to conduct the medical entrance exam through the online mode next year.
