Indian wrestlers continued their good showing to clinch two more gold medals on the second day of the Ulaanbaatar Ranking Series in Mongolia on Friday. Former Asian Champion Manisha Bhanwala (57Kg) and defending champion Neha Sangwan (59Kg) bagged the titles in the women’s freestyle wrestling. Manisha defeated senior world and Asian medalist Sim Son Il of North Korea in the final on a victory by fall to bag her second Ranking Series title of the year. Meanwhile, Neha defeated 5-3 Pyol Hong of North Korea in a close final to bag her second consecutive gold in Mongolia, following last year’s 57kg title. WFI lifts suspension on Aman Sehrawat and Neha Sangwan after review of weight violations

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has lifted the suspensions of Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat and junior wrestler Neha Sangwan, who were earlier penalised for being overweight during major international competitions. Aman had faced suspension after failing to make weight at the Zagreb Championships in Croatia in September, while Neha was pulled up for a similar violation at the Junior World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria, in August. Both wrestlers were issued show-cause notices, Aman on September 2 and Neha earlier the same month, and submitted their responses by September 28 and September 18, respectively. WFI takes lenient view In their written replies, both wrestlers described the incidents as unintentional lapses and assured the federation that such issues would not recur. Coaches appointed for the Zagreb event were also issued notices as part of the review. The WFI Disciplinary Committee, which met on November 13, evaluated the submissions and noted that both athletes have strong records at the international level. With the U17 World Championships in Jordan ten days away, Neha had spent that day first training for more than five hours before receiving Vinesh. Following in footsteps of the two-time world bronze medallist, and CWG Champions Geeta and Babita Phogat from Balali, Neha is the latest wrestling talent from the village. Indian women’s freestyle wrestlers continued their good run at the U20 World Wrestling championships in Pontevedra, Spain, on Friday, adding a couple of more medals to their tally. Nitika and Neha won silver and bronze medals, respectively, as Indian women’s wrestlers ended their campaign with five medals, including one gold, one silver, and three bronze. Nitika was only the second Indian wrestler to make it to the final of these championships.
