The absence of such larger boats along the State’s coastline is widely felt as the reason for poaching from the neighbouring States. Such boats help the fishers travel deeper into the sea and stay for longer durations, which improves their livelihood sources in the form of a higher yield. Nellore sees surge in demand for rooftop solar electricity scheme

The Union government scheme aims to provide free electricity to one crore households through rooftop solar installations. As many as 32,000 SC/ST households, which are eligible for 100 per cent subsidy, have given consent letters for the installation of solar panels on their roofs, with feasibility assessments currently under progress. The Electricity Department has already finalised the agencies to implement the project in the five divisions — Nellore city, Nellore rural, Kavali, Kovur and Atmakur. Applications pouring in As of Monday, the PM Surya Ghar portal has received 9,862 applications, with 6,018 applicants having selected their vendors and uploaded the necessary documents. “From the 6,018 applicants, we have commissioned solar systems atop 4,072 households. (SDEPL) for the establishment of an Autonomous Maritime Shipyard and Systems Centre at Juvvaladinne fishing harbour in Nellore district with a total investment of ₹45 crore and potential to generate employment for 750 people. As per G.O Rt.No .97 issued by Special Chief Secretary (Infrastructure & Investments) M.T. Krishna Babu last week, October 2026 has been set as the date of trial production, and November 26, the date of commencement of commercial production. An official release from the government said the SDEPL project was a major milestone in India’s maritime and defence manufacturing ecosystem, wherein the company builds unmanned and autonomous surface and underwater vessels along with intelligent maritime systems, sensors and command and control technologies. An orange alert has been given for the two districts. Other places in the districts of Prakasam, Annamayya and Chittoor districts may receive heavy rainfall on Monday (November 17), while light showers are expected at one or two places in South Coastal A.P. and Rayalaseema. On Tuesday (November 18), light showers may continue in Rayalaseema and South Coastal A.P. while one or two places in the districts of Tirupati, Chittoor and SPSR Nellore may receive heavy rainfall. Podalakur police served notice on former Minister and YSRCP Nellore district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy at his residence in Nellore on Sunday. The district police have been reportedly trying to serve notice on Mr. Reddy for the past two days, but the leader seemed to have been unavailable at the location. Police even tried to contact him over phone but to no avail. Since it was Ugadi festival on Sunday, the police found nobody at his residence. Dalits allege land grab by YSRCP leader

A group of Dalits alleged that YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Moilla Suresh Reddy was involved in land grabbing. Tension prevailed after an argument between both the groups at GVRR College in Nellore Rural constituency on Friday. Speaking to the media, one of them, Rajesh, alleged that Mr. Suresh Reddy encroached on their land in Kalyan Nagar near GVRR College. “We have all the documents regarding the 62-acre land parcel. The YSRCP leader has been threatening us for the past three years,” he said. “During the YSRCP regime, we were called to police stations and kept waiting all day because of Mr. Suresh Reddy. YSRCP leader Anam Vijayakumar Reddy from Chintareddypalem also supported him. We are on the verge of ending our lives,” he said.
