Batwara 1947 Day 2 Box Office: Sunny Deol roars on Independence Day with 160 per cent spike, nets Rs 18 crore in two days

Batwara 1947 Day 2 Box Office: Sunny Deol roars on Independence Day with 160 per cent spike, nets Rs 18 crore in two days

Batwara 1947 saw a huge surge of 160 per cent on Independence Day, collecting Rs. 13 crore nett after opening at a low of Rs. 5 crore. The running cume of the Sunny Deol starrer now stands at Rs. 18 crore nett at the Indian box office. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film benefitted from the big release it got, which gave it a big boost from holiday walk-ins. Despite this growth, there is a lot of work to do. Batwara 1947 is likely to drop today. If the film could match its Independence Day biz on Day 3, that would be a very good result, but that’s highly unlikely. The advance for Sunday is significantly down from Saturday, which suggests a below Rs. 10 crore day, which won’t be good. If the film manages to stay over Rs. 10 crore, that may not be entirely enough, but much better. Based on current trends, the movie will surpass the Rs. 25 crore nett mark by EOD today. This film was set in production after the mega blockbuster success of Gadar 2, …

Awarapan 2 Box Office Collections: Emraan Hashmi starrer has an outstanding Independence Day in India, Nets Rs. 56 Cr in 2 days

Awarapan 2 Box Office Collections: Emraan Hashmi starrer has an outstanding Independence Day in India, Nets Rs. 56 Cr in 2 days

Awarapan 2 had an outstanding second day at the Indian box office, collecting Rs. 33.50 crore nett approx. The Emraan Hashmi starrer registered a nearly 50 per cent surge on its second day, from an already excellent opening day, thanks to the big holiday of Independence Day. This brings its two-day running total to Rs. 56 crore nett approx. There could be some drop in business today, but at the bare minimum, the film is going to collect over Rs. 80 crore nett in its opening weekend, while at the high end it could reach Rs. 85 crore nett. The film was a HIT on arrival at its opening, and now it is certainly going to be a SUPER HIT. Depending on how strong the Monday hold and the subsequent legs are, it could go on to be a BLOCKBUSTER. It is the fifth HIT or better film of the year for the Hindi film industry, four of which are franchise films. One can make a case for even the fifth one being a quasi-sequel. …

Batwara 1947 Opening Day Box Office Collections: Sunny Deol starrer takes low start, nets Rs 5 crore on Day 1

Batwara 1947 Opening Day Box Office Collections: Sunny Deol starrer takes low start, nets Rs 5 crore on Day 1

Sunny Deol’s new film Batwara 1947 has finally hit the big screens. However, the film couldn’t post a good start. As per estimates, the movie could collect just Rs. 4.50 to 5 crore on its opening day at the Indian box office. That’s the lowest Sunny Deol opening in his 2.0 era after his grand theatrical comeback with Gadar 2. For the record, Batwara 1947 opened even lower than Jaat at the box office.  One of the major reasons why the film started slow could be a lack of interest and excitement among the audience. The pre-release assets of Batwara 1947 couldn’t ignite the same kind of buzz that his earlier films did. Furthermore, it is not a typical Sunny Deol action film for which he is best known. Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the movie clashed with Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2. However, the clash seems one-sided so far. Batwara 1947 has the benefit of relatively better word-of-mouth; however, it is to be seen whether it can translate into numbers or not.  The Rajkumar Santoshi directorial …

Dhamaal 4 Box Office Collections: Ajay Devgn’s comedy flick earns Rs 4 crore plus in 4th weekend, nets Rs 156 crore in 24 days

Dhamaal 4 Box Office Collections: Ajay Devgn’s comedy flick earns Rs 4 crore plus in 4th weekend, nets Rs 156 crore in 24 days

Ajay Devgn’s comedy flick Dhamaal 4 added Rs. 4.65 crore in its 4th weekend, with Rs. 2.15 crore coming on Sunday. On Thursday it seemed like the film was done for with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day but it held well on Friday and posted a decent weekend. The running cume of Dhamaal 4 reached Rs. 155.90 crore nett at the Indian box office.  The Indra Kumar directorial is on the track to finish its entire box office run around Rs. 160 crore nett mark. That makes it a Hit venture at the box office. Though considering the cast and the brand, it should have collected much more in its full run.  Nevertheless, it is the fourth HIT of the year for Bollywood, after Border 2, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, and Bhooth Bangla. Three of these are franchise films, while the fourth one was a quasi-Bhool Bhulaiyaa film. There was talk of franchise fatigue last year, with some franchise films failing, but it clearly isn’t the case. Even Welcome To The Jungle had also …

All-action hero Eustaquio nets injury time winner to send Canada to round of 16

All-action hero Eustaquio nets injury time winner to send Canada to round of 16

Two years ago, when Stephen Eustaquio walked onto the pitch, he felt a sense of purposelessness. He had lost his parents in the space of a year, and when he couldn’t find them in the stands, he felt like crying, to quit the game his parents helped build. “I felt there was no meaning in my life, and we were playing world champions Argentina in the COPA,” he told Canada Football website. In the next few months, he took a break, spent time unto himself and returned revitalised. “It was their dream to see me achieve something big, so I should keep playing for them,” he said. Two years later, in Los Angeles, he found the purpose of his life. To score the most historic goal yet in Canada’s football history, the one that stamped their boarding pass to its first-ever round of 16 encounter. The exact moment came a minute and twenty seconds into the stoppage time, when the game seemed meandering into the inevitability of extra time and potentially the shootouts. But pounced in Canada’s …

How did Rohit Sharma fare in nets as he returns to Indian team for Afghan ODIs

How did Rohit Sharma fare in nets as he returns to Indian team for Afghan ODIs

The temperature refused to drop below 40 degrees Celsius as Rohit Sharma checked in for national duty for the first time in five months at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday. The first ball from Nitish Kumar Reddy nipped back with some heat, hitting Rohit flush on the front pad. Conditions will be distinctly cooler when the 39-year-old marks a middle-stump guard again in two days, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala during the first ODI against Afghanistan. There was no discernible lethargy in footwork, and no sign of the dodgy hamstring that caused concern during the recent IPL season. A few of his teammates had already braved the Chandigarh heat over the weekend during the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the new PCA Stadium. Returning to action after receiving the fitness clearance from BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, Rohit’s first hit stood in sharp contrast. While the other top-order batters unlocked full gung-ho mode in the optional session, Rohit exercised restraint during an hour-long stint. Minimal big hits from Rohit …

Dhurandhar: The Revenge added Rs. 5 crore to the tally in its Week 7, with Rs. 3.25 crore coming on the weekend. The movie registered a 55 per cent drop from the previous week. The running cume of the Ranveer Singh starrer reached Rs. 977.75 crore nett at the Hindi box office.  Backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the spy action drama is expected to cross the Rs. 980 crore mark in the 8th week, which will also mark its end at the box office. It will miss the Rs. 1000 crore nett mark in the Hindi version alone after coming so close. However, the movie has already smashed the four-digit figure with its all-India collections, with Rs. 60 crore coming from South Indian versions.  The Ranveer Singh starrer is an All-Time Blockbuster at the Hindi box office. It not only emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood film in India but also inaugurated the Rs. 700 crore, Rs. 800 crore, and Rs. 900 crore box office clubs in Hindi. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the movie emerged as the …

Kuldeep Kumar nets new national pole vault record with 5.41m jump

Kuldeep Kumar nets new national pole vault record with 5.41m jump

Kuldeep Kumar set a new national record in men’s pole vault, clearing 5.41m at the inaugural Indian Indoor Open Combined Events and Pole Vault Competition. The athlete from Madhya Pradesh achieved the mark in his first attempt, surpassing the previous national record of 5.40m held by Dev Kumar Meena. The effort also improved the indoor national record of 5.30m set earlier this year by Reegan G. Kuldeep attempted to push further by going for 5.46m but was unable to clear the height. Nevertheless, his successful jump at 5.41m secured him the top spot and established a new benchmark in Indian pole vault. Competition sees strong performances across field Reegan G finished second with a best effort of 5.25m, while former record holder Dev Kumar Meena had to settle for third place after clearing 5.20m. Meena, who had equalled his national record earlier this year at an international event in Taiwan, was unable to find rhythm during the competition and failed in his attempts at 5.35m. Despite finishing third, Meena welcomed the new record, noting that …

Dhurandhar The Revenge Box Office Collections: Ranveer Singh starrer adds Rs 11 crore in Week 6, nets Rs 972 crore in 37 days

Dhurandhar The Revenge Box Office Collections: Ranveer Singh starrer adds Rs 11 crore in Week 6, nets Rs 972 crore in 37 days

Dhurandhar: The Revenge added Rs. 1.10 crore to the tally on its 6th Thursday, closing its 6th week around Rs. 11.10 crore gross. The spy action drama, directed by Aditya Dhar, took its 37-day theatrical cume to Rs. 972.85 crore gross at the Indian box office.  Headlined by Ranveer Singh, the movie will cross the Rs. 975 crore nett mark in its 7th weekend and is expected to wind up its 7th week around Rs. 978 crore. Based on the current trends, the movie is heading to close its entire cume around the Rs. 980 crore to Rs. 985 crore mark at the Hindi box office. Dhurandhar 2 will fall short of touching the Rs. 1000 crore nett mark in Hindi, after coming so close. Though it has already crossed the four-digit mark, including Rs. 60 crore of collections from South dubbed versions.  Nevertheless, the Ranveer Singh starrer is an All-Time Blockbuster at the Hindi box office. It not only emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood film in India but also inaugurated the Rs. 700 crore, Rs. 800 crore, and Rs. 900 crore …

Bhooth Bangla Box Office Collections: Akshay Kumar starrer nets Rs. 122 Cr in India after two weeks

Bhooth Bangla Box Office Collections: Akshay Kumar starrer nets Rs. 122 Cr in India after two weeks

Bhooth Bangla collected Rs. 3.25 crore nett approx on its 2nd Thursday, and with that, it wrapped its second week at the Indian box office at just over Rs. 41 crore nett. The drop from the first week sans previews was 46 per cent. A sub 50 per cent drop is always good in India. There was a 20 per cent spike in business from Wednesday, thanks to Friday being a holiday, which boosted evening shows. The two-week running total stands at Rs. 121.75 crore nett approx.  The film is a HIT and remains on course to Rs. 150 crore nett full run. Still, the hold this weekend will determine if it will be a sure thing or if it could come down to the wire. Friday is a holiday, so that will help with the hold somewhat. The third week doesn’t have much competition from Hindi films; the competition comes from Raja Shivaji (Marathi) in Maharashtra, where the film has performed well. It has retained a good amount of showcasing everywhere else at around …
